Mortlake Crematorium

Mortlake Crematorium Serving the community since 1939, helping the bereaved. Within a Grade II listed deco chapel & maintaining award winning gardens of remembrance

04/05/2026

We’re so grateful to Mortlake Crematorium, Kew for their generous support of Spread a Smile through a national metal recycling initiative with Orthometals.

With families’ consent, metals recovered after cremations are recycled and the proceeds donated to charity. Thanks to this initiative, Mortlake Crematorium donated £4,250, helping us bring joy and moments of fun to seriously ill children and young people, including those receiving treatment at local hospitals.

A heartfelt thank you to the bereaved families and everyone involved for their kindness and support.

If you know of a crematorium that might be interested in supporting our work, please help spread the word or contact fundraising@spreadasmile.org.

Our wisteria is in bloom and looks amazing! Cascading blooms and rich fragrance greet people as they walk from the car park through the wisteria arch to our building.  💜🌿

Did you know wisteria first came to the UK in 1816? John Reeves, a tea inspector for the East India Company, introduced Chinese wisteria to London from Canton. From just two surviving cuttings, one still thriving today at the Fullers Factory in Chiswick and another at Kew Gardens, this spectacular climber captured Victorian hearts and quickly became a garden favourite.

Our own wisteria has its own story. The metal arch frame was erected at the end of 2019.  The wisteria itself was purchased in March 2020, its planting was delayed during lockdown, when our Head Gardener Sam stepped away from the gardens to support cremation services. Finally planted in spring 2021, it has flourished into the stunning display you see today.

Now in bloom:
✨ “Kokuryu” (Royal Purple) – deep, richly scented purple flowers
✨ “Kimono” – elegant silvery-white blooms

Together, they create a layered flowering season, extending the beauty just a little longer.  🌸

Mortlake Crematorium is proud to have nominated to receive £4,250 through the Metals Recycling Scheme.

This national initiative, carried out with the consent of bereaved families, recovers metals (such as metal knees, hips) following cremation to support bereavement related charities, and has raised millions of pounds for good causes across the UK.

a Richmond-based charity providing free and confidential bereavement support to local residents, was selected for this award by Mortlake Crematorium. Recently, Jenny Harris (Co-founder) and Katherine Mathers (Fundraising Manager) visited the crematorium to receive the donation.

We are delighted to support the vital work of space2grieve. This funding will help ensure that individuals and families in our community can continue to access compassionate bereavement support when they need it most.

This partnership reflects our shared commitment to strengthening bereavement services across the borough and supporting our local community with care and dignity.

With heartfelt thanks to those who donate funeral flowers and to our wonderful volunteers 💐

Because of your kindness, we are able to regularly deliver beautiful tributes to local nursing homes. These flowers are lovingly reused in activity sessions, where residents create their own arrangements—bringing colour, beauty, and comfort into their bedrooms and shared spaces.

It is so heart warming to see the joy the flowers bring. 🌸

Excited to be holding our second Summer Proms raising funds for Meadow House Hospice!

This special event invites you to relax and enjoy a wonderful mix of live music provided by the talented Ealing Wind Orchestra conducted by David Gordon-Shute, from much-loved classical pieces to uplifting modern favourites. Surrounded by friends, family, and the gentle charm of a summer evening, it promises to be a truly memorable experience for everyone.

A highlight of the evening will be a performance from the Melody Misfits Choir, who will not only entertain but also invite everyone to join in for a shared musical moment — a chance to come together in song and celebration.

For those looking to enjoy delicious food, freshly prepared authentic paella by The Tapestry will be available. There will also be an ice-cream van serving traditional cones and ice lollies.

Guests are welcome to bring along blankets, camping chairs and picnics, settle in comfortably in our beautiful gardens. Children can attend free when accompanied by a responsible adult, making it a perfect event for families as well.

Most importantly, every entry and raffle ticket sale helps support Meadow House Hospice, whose dedicated team provides specialist palliative and end-of-life care to people living in the boroughs of Ealing and Hounslow. By attending, you are not only enjoying a beautiful evening but also contributing to a deeply meaningful cause.

A heartfelt thank you to all the visitors, Funeral Directors, and the wonderful families from Windham Nursery for your kind Easter egg donations 🐣🍫. Special thanks to Kim and Roxy who helped hand out the Easter eggs.

Your generosity was so gratefully received by both residents and staff at Chestnut Lodge, Greville House, Maryville, and Nazareth House nursing homes. It truly brought smiles and joy to so many faces.

We were also incredibly lucky at Chestnut Lodge to see and hold the beautiful chicks that had just hatched. 🐥💛

Thank you again for your kindness and support. We couldn’t do it without you, and we look forward to doing it all again next year with your help!
