Osteopathy for RARE Perthes disease in the R hip and general body MOT (pre-Covid)πββοΈ.
Personal trainer has battled with Perthes ever since his diagnosis as a child. Mike was once told he wouldn't be able to walk when he was a child due to the severity and level of pain of his condition.
Since then, and with regular (maintenance) physical therapy, Mike has been inspired him to become a fantastic PT, run marathons and walk miles raising money for children with this rare condition (as well as other charities) π.
Perthes is a rare condition affecting the hip
joint in children, involving a loss of blood supply to the femoral head (the ball part of the ball and socket joint situated at the top of the thigh bone).
This results in bone softening and collapse (known as AVN/ Avascular Necrosis).
The femoral head becomes deformed, causing hip pain, referred pain and other
problems.
Osteopathy proves useful in managing symptoms- loosening tension in soft tissues, restoring joint mobility and aiding the blood supply to return to the femoral head for healing.
As with all Osteopathy appointments, a full medical history and physical exam was taken to determine a diagnosis and treatment protocol.
Tailored prescribed home exercises and stretches empower Mike to manage his symptoms, working as a useful adjunct alongside a monthly MOT of Osteopathy.
Throughout the pandemic, Osteopathy appointments have only been undertaken following strict Covid hygiene and safety protocols, and treatment provided wearing full PPE. Patients must wear a mask, use hand gel, and answer Covid screening questions before every appointment.
I am also pleased to declare that as a Health Care Professional, I have now had both doses of the Covid vaccine πͺ.
If you are considering Osteopathy for your symptoms but are concerned, please do get in touch and be assured I am doing everything to keep myself and you safe and out of pain π.
