Floatation is a free floating of the body on the water surface in floating tanks filled with water and Epsom salt, providing adequate buoyancy. The buoyancy created effectively removes the effects of gravity on the body, and brings the individual close to an experience of total weightlessness. Unless you are an astronaut, this is the only situation you will encounter where your body is free from the harmful forces of gravity. A huge amount of brain-power is used every second in order to deal with the strain that gravity places on one’s body but now floating weightlessly your body is perfectly supported by a cushion of silky body
temperature liquid. The body temperature of the water means that once you are settled in the tank, it is virtually impossible to distinguish between parts of the body that are in contact with the water and those that aren’t. The body drifts in conditions of complete sensory isolation from external stimuli. Sounds, images, touch, the force of gravity disappear... Freed from all sensation of gravity, temperature, touch, sight and sound (which together account for 90% of normal neuro-muscular activity), you conserve and redirect vast amounts of natural physical and mental energy. The ultra-deep relaxation of floating “resets” the body’s hormonal and metabolic balance, accelerating recovery from the effects of stress, illness, injury or strenuous exercise. With no commands needing to be sent out, the logical side of the brain is rendered redundant, and its activity slows down until it synchronises with the creative side. This leaves the individual in a dreamlike state, akin to the thoughts experienced just before you go to sleep. In this state, the brain releases vast amounts of endorphins. While the state of relaxation may be deep and profound, the individual’s brain stays dreamily alert. The brain gradually shifts from its usual waking beta state to generate deep alpha, theta or even delta waves, the state-of-mind that Buddhist monks try to reach through hours of meditation and years of training. You can achieve this in a matter of minutes just by lying back into the silky warm sea of bliss that is the floatation experience! Don't be misled by the word 'salt': there is big difference between the salt you season your food and the Epson Salt. In fact, they're totally different mineral compounds. Epsom salt is a mineral compound of magnesium and MgSO4 sulphate. It was first discovered in England in the 17th century during a drought. A local cowherd had stopped with his cattle on Epsom common at a pool of water that the cows were refusing to drink from. The water had mostly evaporated, leaving behind a salt that was extremely bitter in taste. Epsom became a popular destination with visitors with a range of health conditions swigging pints of Epsomite dissolved in water. Scientists eventually found Epsom salt to have a whole range of health benefits. Thanks to the main ingredient, magnesium, it reduces inflammation, flashes out toxins, improve skin, reduces the risk of heart attacks and strokes, improves the use of oxygen in cells, reduces the risk of vascular diseases, has a positive effect on the immune system, joint pain and muscle cramps and regulates the action of over 300 enzymes. In turn, sulphates facilitate the cellular absorption of nutrients, stimulate the digestive functions of the pancreas, help detoxify the body and alleviate headaches and migraines. Studies have shown that magnesium and sulphate are easily absorbed through the skin, so an Epsom salt bath is the perfect way to enrich your body with these two ingredients.

Your nervous system is like a muscle. When you have been in a constant state of "fight or flight" mode, the sympathetic nervous system, which is responsible for "fight and flight" mode, gets stronger. If it gets too strong from being in this state constantly for many years, your brain will not know how to switch off the "fight or flight" mode and relax.

The good news is that you can use floatation to train your parasympathetic nervous system, which is responsible for "rest and digest" mode. While floating, your brain actives parasympathetic nervous system, which will decrease your heart rate and blood pressure, make your breathing slower, and activate theta waves, which usually happens during meditation.

The more you float, the stronger your parasympathetic nervous system gets, as you train it by activating it each time you float. Once your nervous system gets stronger, you relax easier and faster, you're able to approach your life with greater resilience and recover from stressful events quicker.

Our float tanks are much more hygienic than a swimming pool or hot tub, and without a smell of chlorine. The water is sanitised and goes through the filtration system 4 times after each client and after each top up of tap water and salt. It is filtered through a 1-micron pool filter that's 100 times thinner than a human hair. It's the finest filtration system of any pod in the world.

In addition, the water goes through a UV lamp filter to kill all bacteria. It is also micro-dosed with hydrogen peroxide to further sanitise the water. The water is tested regularly to assure the highest standards of cleanliness.

It's also worth noting that Epsom Salt has natural antibacterial, antiviral, and antifungal properties, including Staphylococcus aureus, Escherichia coli, and
Pseudomonas aeruginosa which can cause
a range of infections, including skin infections, urinary tract infections, and respiratory infections. With such a high salt concentration in the water, no pathogenic microorganisms are able to exist in it.

The rooms, showers, and pods are cleaned every day and also cleaned and sanitised after each client.

For busy people, it may seem like a waste of precious time to schedule a float session. The travel to Kingston, taking a shower, spending an hour in the float tank, followed by another shower, and getting ready can feel like a lot. I completely understand that perspective, but I still believe investing your time in floating is truly worthwhile.

Because your brain and body don't need to use the energy to deal with gravity and sensory input while floating, it allows them to focus on healing and regeneration instead. Just one hour of floating can rejuvenate your body and mind equivalent to 4 hours of sleep! In fact, 2 hours of floating can be as restorative as an entire night’s sleep!

I work around 80 hours a week across my two jobs, without any days off, but I still make sure to find the time for a weekly float. I wouldn't be able to work so much without my floating routine. I notice a significant boost in my energy levels the day after a float, even if it means going to bed two hours later. It genuinely makes a difference! Not to mention all the other health benefits that can keep you away from the doctor, painkillers, or unscheduled time off due to physical or mental struggles!

It's impossible to sink in our tanks, even if you tried! You don't need to be able to swim. Due to the high salt concentration in the water, everyone will float, regardless of your size and weight.

It is very common and completely fine to fall asleep in the float tank. The water line doesn't approach the mouth or nose, and it's nearly impossible to accidently flip over. If you were to turn over, the salt would sting your eyes and wake you.

You may call assistance at any time by pressing the assistance button inside the tank. The staff is always present on site to assist you.
