Sexting might feel like a bit of fun and flirting…but think before you send it…

Would you do it face to face? Do you feel pressured? What are the long term consequences? Would it be so bad if you didn’t send it? Are you drunk or high – has this reduced your inhibitions? Would you be happy for the whole school, college, work placement or your family to see it?

Sharing images on line means you lose control of them…. Once it’s gone it’s gone.

Also remember the law – taking or sharing s*xual images of anyone under 18 (even if they are of you) is illegal. It also gets pretty tricky with respect to the law & privacy / consent / forwarding etc

If you are being bullied or blackmailed there are people to talk to (Childline 0800 1111 www.childline.org.uk & CEOP www.ceop.police.uk)

You might be happy to watch po*******hy but it has to be understood for the fiction that it is.

Everyone knows the story lines are soooo unrealistic so why would we think the s*x is accurate?

It’s also illegal to watch it if you are, or show it someone who is, under 18.

We can talk about consent for hours (and we do!) but it’s pretty simple...if you ever doubt that your partner’s into it as much as you are Stop and Ask...!

Find out more about consent at www.gettingiton.org.uk and www.brook.org.uk/your-life/consent

If you want to discuss it with a person ask your school or college nurse or if you live in the Kingston area visit a KU19 drop in clinic or visit The Sexual Health Clinic at The Wolverton at Kingston Hospital

We all know that bloke’s bits come in all shapes and sizes. But boys it’s important for you to know what is ‘normal’ for you.

Once a month after a bath or shower have a proper feel (not a fun feel...) and see if anything feels unusual.

If everything feels fine then reward yourself with a fun feel, if it feels unusual don’t stress just pop along to your local s*xual health clinic for a second opinion. And before you start googling in a panic remember testicular cancer is more common in younger men BUT statistically it’s probably not cancer and if it is testicular cancer survival rates are 98% at 10 years so the sooner diagnosed the sooner treated.

MOST EFFECTIVE = The IUD (Coil) – only 1/1000 women who get an emergency IUD will get pregnant PLUS it provides ongoing contraception. It needs to be fitted by a Dr/Nurse.
ALSO EFFECTIVE = The Emergency Pill – 2 types are available – which is best for you and how effective it is depends on when your last period was and how quickly you take it. You can get it over the counter at a pharmacy

If you live in the Kingston area there are lots of places you can access emergency contraception - find them at www.gettingiton.org.uk

Your right to confidentiality and treatment is not dependent on your age.
If a clinician wants to tell someone else about your care (GP, social worker, mental health team etc) they will ask your permission first. If you say no and they have serious concerns that you or someone else is in danger they may pass the information on. They will tell you about this.

To protect your confidentiality staff at The Wolverton Sexual Health Clinic (Kingston Hospital) always see you on your own – without a parent, partner or friend – at some point during your visit. This ensures you have a safe space to discuss anything you wish to.

Don’t let concerns about confidentiality put you off attending a Sexual Health Clinic. We are always happy to discuss and explain confidentiality and we have patient notices and leaflets about it.

If your partner says “No” respect them and stop.

But waiting to hear No isn’t enough – check with your partner before and during any s*xual contact that they are happy and comfortable with what’s happening. Consent should be given enthusiastically and constantly throughout s*x.

Alcohol or drugs also changes the picture – if someone is drunk they legally can’t consent so if either of you are drunk or high it’s best to stop now and start another time when you’re both sober and want to.

“The Withdrawal Method” – if 100 couples use the withdrawal method for 1 year over 20 pregnancies will occur (at least 1 in 5 women will get pregnant)

Withdrawing requires a lot of self-control – this is difficult in the heat of the moment and requires good communication between couples

Even if ‘pulling out’ does work Pre-cum (fluid released before ej*******on) contains live s***m – it only takes 1 s***m to find 1 egg to cause a real pregnancy risk

‘Withdrawal’ also offers no STI protection - only condoms do this

Our advice – don’t risk it! (but if you do make sure you know where to get emergency contraception to combat Pre-cum and ‘accidents’…)

Herpes is common and 2/3 of those with the virus don’t know they have it. The virus can lie dormant for years. It is passed on by skin to skin contact so condoms can help prevention.

There are many myths and unpleasant stories surrounding Herpes – if you don’t understand the virus don’t increase the Stigma – know the facts not the fiction.

If you have symptoms or have been diagnosed with the virus a s*xual health clinic can help you understand what this means for you.
