MAJOR AWARD FOR OUR LITTLE CAFE
The Lord Mayor of Bristol’s medal is awarded to Bristol’s unsung heroes who serve the people of Bristol through voluntary and community work or charitable acts of work. This year Barton Hill Rugby Football Club Charity Café was selected as a recipient. The café was nominated by Councillor Kelvin Blake and Councillor Ellie King with supporting statements from children’s parents who have been helped and café members.
The Medal was presented at a ceremony at City Hall, College Green and the four lead volunteers accepted the honour on behalf of the café.
The Lord Mayor said ‘The Barton Hill Rugby Football Club Charity Café team have provided exceptional voluntary service.’ ‘Their fundraising, over £134,000 to date, has enabled the purchase of specialist wheelchairs and disability equipment for children and young adults, transforming lives locally and beyond.’
We are all proud being recognised for this award and our café is very unique. All the volunteer pull together to make it the success it is. It is an excellent team of people and we are lucky to have such a committed and charming bunch. So congratulations to all the volunteers - Kimmy, Paul, Raffle Chris, Natalia, Nicky G, Sandy, Shirley Worley, Jeanette, Sue, Dave, Shirley Martin, Veronica, Lisa, Brother Chris, Nicky, Paulo, Disco Dancing Bob, Mandy, Elizabeth, Nikki and Denis.
