Yesterday, we had the privilege of handing over a new Rehasense Icon 35 transit wheelchair, complete with a SPEX cushion, to a truly remarkable gentleman who will celebrate his 101st birthday this April.

Philip shared an extraordinary story—one that few of us will ever hear firsthand. During World War II, he served in the Glider Regiment and took part in the Horsa Glider invasion of France. These young men quite literally glided from England into occupied France, not knowing if they would survive the journey, let alone the war that awaited them.

On Philip’s glider alone, there were around 50 men. Only 10 survived. Philip was one of them.

Now, more than a century on, his resilience and quiet strength are as humbling as his story.

Philip’s new wheelchair, along with his neighbour’s Quickie QS5 X fitted with an Empulse F35, has been generously funded by a nurse who has cared for them both over many years. She wanted them to have something far better than what they had been using—a gesture that speaks volumes about compassion and dedication.

We wish Philip all the very best in his new wheels, and we feel genuinely honoured to have played a small part in supporting such an incredible life story.
