🎥 24 hours NOT in A&E.

When you need help, A&E might seem like the obvious choice. But there are many ways to get NHS help for non-emergencies that work around your life.

Get the right care, in the right place, at the right time – and help free-up emergency services for those who need them most this winter.

The local authority is holding one of its ‘Too Good to Throw Away’ events on Monday 12 January at Kingswinford Methodist Church on Stream Road.

People will be able to donate unwanted household items that are in good working order between 10am and 1pm. Items accepted include curtains, bedding, cushions, kitchenware, small electricals, clothes, children’s winter coats, food and unused toiletries.

Anything collected will be shared between charitable organisations in the borough, including Provision House, which repurposes them for community use.

Residents are politely reminded that the scheme is not requesting furniture, soft furniture or white goods. You can find out more, and see a full list of wanted items here: https://www.dudley.gov.uk/council-community/starting-over/

Flu cases in hospitals are the highest ever for this time of year.

But there are things you can do to help, like getting vaccinated, if eligible, and taking steps to protect older and more vulnerable family members.

More than 18 million people have already had a flu vaccine this season.

Flu vaccines don’t stop everyone from catching flu, but they do reduce the risk of becoming seriously unwell, needing hospital care or developing complications – especially for older adults and those with health conditions.

If you’re eligible and haven’t had yours yet, it’s not too late to get protected.

If you're pregnant, it's important to take up the Pertussis vaccine when offered.
It helps to protect your baby in their first few weeks of life, as whooping cough can be life-threatening and require hospital treatment.
