National Puzzle Day at Kington Court

On Thursday 29th January, residents at Kington Court came together to celebrate National Puzzle Day 2026. Gathering in the media lounge, everyone enjoyed working as a team to piece together puzzles featuring beautiful flower arrangements and inspiring scenery.

It was a wonderfully relaxed morning and a lovely opportunity to connect, engage and enjoy some mindful fun together.

Knit & Natter Returns at Kington Court

Our Knit and Natter Club returned this afternoon at Kington Court, bringing residents together to enjoy a good chat, plenty of knitting, and a lovely cup of tea. We’re lucky to have many keen knitters among our residents — and even some of our staff join in too!

Jean loves knitting hats for friends and family, while Sue enjoys creating a variety of pieces, including blankets and the ornament cosy she’s currently working on. It was a relaxed and sociable afternoon filled with creativity and conversation.

A Century Worth Celebrating

We were delighted to celebrate a truly special milestone as our much-loved resident Doreen marked her 100th birthday at Kington Court, surrounded by family, fellow residents and our wonderful team.

The day was filled with smiles, singing and celebration, complete with a beautiful bouquet of flowers and a stunning cupcake tower — lovingly hand-piped into purple roses, Doreen’s favourite colour, by our Home Manager, Libby. The room was beautifully decorated, and Doreen was touched by the heartfelt handmade cards and kind words shared throughout the day.

Doreen also enjoyed celebrating with her loved ones over the weekend and was thrilled to receive her special birthday card from His Majesty The King.

Happy 100th Birthday, Doreen — thank you for letting us be part of such a memorable celebration.

RSPB Big Birdwatch 2026 at Kington Court

The much-anticipated RSPB Big Birdwatch 2026 is in full swing at Kington Court — and the rain and wind certainly didn’t dampen spirits! Residents gathered downstairs for morning tea, enjoying a delicious selection of treats including filled and iced doughnuts, chocolate twirl cupcakes, chocolate log, and Jaffa Cake and Malteser bars

Armed with binoculars, residents spent an hour watching the rear garden and keeping a tally of the birds spotted. Sightings included blackbirds, chaffinches, house sparrows, collared doves, robins, starlings, and woodpigeons.

All of our residents’ findings will be proudly submitted to the RSPB Big Birdwatch website, helping contribute to this important national survey. A wonderful morning of teamwork, treats, and wildlife watching!

Eleanor’s 84th Birthday Celebration at Kington Court

Staff and residents gathered in the Media Lounge to sing and wish Eleanor a very happy 84th birthday. She was delighted to receive lots of lovely cards and a beautiful potted pale pink rose, which will take pride of place in her room.

Eleanor kindly shared slices of her homemade birthday cake, lovingly prepared by our kitchen team, with everyone to enjoy.

Wellbeing Session with Animals Interactive at Kington Court

Residents and staff gathered this morning for a truly special wellbeing session, as Animals Interactive visited Kington Court Nursing Home all the way from South Wales. The visit gave residents the opportunity to meet, hold and stroke a wonderful variety of animals — from a Boa Constrictor, Bearded Dragon and Tortoise to Guinea Pigs, Rabbits, a Meerkat, Owl, Tarantula, Russian Black Fox and even a cuddly Skunk!

The room was filled with happiness, curiosity and smiles as residents and staff enjoyed spending time with the friendly, fluffy (and not-so-fluffy!) visitors. Sessions like these are fantastic for wellbeing, sparking conversation, memories and plenty of joy for everyone involved.

Hairdressing Thursdays at Kington Court!

Each Thursday afternoon, residents at Kington Court Nursing Home can book a relaxing appointment in our salon with visiting hairdresser Alison. Whether it’s a shampoo and set, wash, cut and blow-dry, or a tidy trim, everyone enjoys a well-earned pamper.

With soothing scalp massages, friendly chats, and a cup of tea shared together, it’s a much-loved weekly treat that leaves residents feeling refreshed and looking their best.

Residents at Kington Court enjoyed another wonderful Herefordshire Growing Point session with the lovely Angie this week.

Angie shared exciting news about a new rewilding project aimed at encouraging wildlife back into gardens across the region. Perfectly timed with the upcoming RSPB Big Garden Birdwatch, residents got hands-on creating beautiful decorative bird perches filled with bird seed and mealworms.

From the fresh citrus scent of hollowed oranges to threading branches, tying garden twine, and decorating with winter crab apples, holly, and fir, the session was full of creativity and conversation. Residents were delighted with their finished perches and can’t wait to see the birds enjoy them too.

📚 Book Club is back at Kington Court! 📚

This morning, residents gathered in the media lounge to enjoy the return of our much-loved Book Club. With support from staff, everyone explored a wonderful variety of books — from Blue Planet and Looking Back Through Time: Britain (1880–1960) to stunning art collections featuring Da Vinci and Michelangelo, as well as a fascinating World Collection of Herbs from our bookcase.

The books sparked lively conversations, shared memories, and thoughtful reflections between residents and those supporting them, making for a truly enriching and meaningful morning together.

Snowy Scenes at Kington Court ❄️

Snow fell heavily across Kington following Storm Goretti, but that didn’t stop our brilliant team at Kington Court. Our Maintenance Operative, Darren, and Head Housekeeper, Brian, embraced the challenge and spent the morning clearing snow from the car park and pathways.

Armed with shovels, spades, and grit salt, they worked hard to ensure the outside areas were safe and accessible for visiting relatives, professionals, and delivery drivers. A huge thank you to both Darren and Brian for their dedication and teamwork in keeping everyone safe.

Celebrating National Bird Day at Kington Court

To mark National Bird Day 2026, and in preparation for the RSPB Big Garden Birdwatch later this month, residents at Kington Court came together for a hands-on and nature-filled activity.

With support from our gardener, Jack, residents prepared homemade bird seed fat balls by mixing lard, peanut butter, peanuts, and wild bird seed. The mixture was then moulded into ball shapes or placed into reusable cups with garden string attached before being set in the freezer to harden.

Once ready, residents enjoyed heading into the garden to hang their creations and take great pleasure in admiring their work — especially while watching how much the birds are enjoying them!
