What a lovely day at the Dementia Awareness Drop-In Event at Corstorphine Community Centre today.

It was such a warm, welcoming and supportive event, and I really enjoyed being part of it.

My gentle relaxation and breathing sessions were very well received and, for many people, very much needed. It’s always such a reminder of how much people quietly carry with them every day, and how powerful it can be to simply pause, breathe and feel supported for a little while. Thank you to all who attended the sessions, it was lovely to meet you.

It was also lovely to meet Tally from Jaydee Massage Therapies , who was providing hand massages throughout the day, and NW Edinburgh Singing Group who introduced the singing sessions they run for people with dementia and their carers.

There was something really special about being in a room full of people singing songs together like My Bonnie Lies Over the Ocean, Heilin Lassie and Daisy Daisy - songs I hadn’t heard in such a long time. There was so much warmth, laughter and connection in the room. And cups of tea and cake. 😊

A huge thank you to everyone involved in organising such a fabulous community event.

Did you know that dancing may help reduce the risk of falls as we get older?

A large research review involving over 4,000 older adults found that dance-based movement activities, including ballroom dancing, folk dancing and Tai Chi, were linked with:

- Improved balance
- Better mobility
- Increased lower body strength
- Reduced risk of falls by 37%

Researchers also highlighted something really important: these activities combine movement, focus, rhythm, coordination and social connection, all of which support both physical and emotional wellbeing.

And honestly… this makes so much sense.

When we move in ways that feel enjoyable, expressive and engaging, we’re not just exercising the body. We’re supporting confidence, connection, calmness and quality of life too.

As a hypnotherapist, I often work with people whose confidence in themselves or their body has changed after illness, anxiety, stress, burnout or life transitions.

Sometimes support begins with calming the nervous system.

Sometimes it’s rebuilding confidence and trust in yourself.

Sometimes it’s helping someone feel safe enough to reconnect with life again.

Movement, breathing, relaxation and mind-body approaches can all play a valuable part in that process.

And no… you absolutely do not need to be a “good dancer”.

Because it turns out your body and mind don’t care whether you look like you’re on Strictly… they just want you to keep moving.

Tomorrow I'll be at the Dementia Awareness Drop-In Event at Corstorphine Community Centre and I’m really looking forward to being part of it.

Between 10.30am and 1pm I’ll be offering gentle 20-minute relaxation and breathing sessions.

These sessions are simply a chance to pause for a little while, breathe, relax and have some calm space just for you. We’ll use very gentle breathing and grounding techniques to help settle tension, quiet busy minds and create a greater sense of calm and steadiness. People will also be able to take away simple tools they can continue using at home afterwards.

It will be a really warm and supportive event with lots of lovely local people and organisations involved.

Everyone is very welcome.

Corstorphine Community Centre10am to 1pm

Feeling overwhelmed? I’ve written a simple guide to calming breathwork you can use anywhere - morning, work breaks, or before bed. Try box breathing, 4-7-8 breaths or diaphragmatic breathing for just 5 minutes and notice your mind slow, your body relax, and your focus return. These are practical, gentle tools I recommend for children and adults learning to manage anxiety, improve sleep and build resilience. Read the full post for step‑by‑step tips and how to make breathwork part of your day: https://www.mindtriphypnotherapy.co.uk/post/calming-breathwork-exercises-to-soothe-your-mind

Have you tried a breath practice before? Tell me which one helped you most - I’d love to hear.

Sometimes anxiety isn’t about what’s happening now - it’s about a nervous system that has learned to stay on guard.

The good news? The brain is incredibly adaptable.

With the right approach, it can learn to feel calm and safe again.

Hypnotherapy works with the unconscious patterns that keep people stuck in stress or worry, helping them create new, calmer responses.

So often, the people I work with come to me thinking something needs to be fixed.

But the truth is… you’re not broken.

You already have so many of the resources you need within you - sometimes they’re just a little buried under stress, anxiety, habits, or life experiences.

Hypnotherapy gently helps you reconnect with those inner strengths, so change can feel natural, calm, and lasting.

If you’ve ever felt “stuck”, this might be the shift you’ve been looking for.

A common misconception is that hypnotherapy is about fixing people.

In reality, it’s about helping individuals access their own inner resources and create positive change.

The answers are often already there, hypnotherapy helps bring them into focus
