This post reminds me a lot of my life:
*walked away from my studies at 17 due to low self esteem/depression
*got a job which restored my confidence
*went back to studying at 21 and went to university
*had a successful career
*gave up my office job due to a chronic eye condition at 49
*retrained as a yoga teacher at 49
*retrained as a hypnotherapist at 52
Who knows what life will bring next but the ability to pick yourself up and adapt to the new normal can actually be a catalyst for positive change and growth.

What I could not have foreseen all those years ago at 17 was how adversity can often result in opportunities I never thought possible. Would I prefer to be working in an office environment now? Probably not - although the pension would be welcome!

It's never too late to start.

“It is a common misconception that happiness is something created by external events.” Julia Daker 💡✨
In fact, our own mind is the most powerful tool for happiness that there is. 🧠💖
External events are often transitory, but our internal perspective is lasting. 🌈🌍 Whilst you cannot control what is going on around you, you can learn how to positively shape your experience of the world. 🌟
As a Solution Focused Hypnotherapist, I help people to regain control over their thoughts. This relaxing process can help with stubborn issues such as stress, burnout, insomnia, IBS, fears, phobias, chronic pain, low self-esteem, shyness, anger, and more. 🛌💆‍♀️🧘‍♂️

The low road and high road neural pathways theory explains how our brain processes emotional responses. The "low road" is a fast, automatic pathway that triggers immediate reactions to stimuli, often without conscious thought. This pathway is responsible for our instinctive responses, such as the fight-or-flight reaction.

On the other hand, the "high road" is a slower, more deliberate pathway that involves higher cognitive processing. This pathway allows us to evaluate and interpret stimuli, leading to more thoughtful and rational responses. The high road engages the prefrontal cortex, which helps us make decisions based on past experiences and reasoning.

We can train ourselves to manage our emotional responses more effectively. Solution Focused Hypnotherapy helps the brain recognise when we're reacting instinctively through the low road. It can help the brain to engage the high road and respond more thoughtfully. This awareness can lead to better emotional regulation and improved mental well-being.

You might have heard of smoking cessation, but hypnosis can work just as well for those wanting to free themselves from va**ng. It's quick and straightforward, requiring no special skills - just the genuine desire to stop.

Unlike animals, humans do not just live by their instincts. We are special in that we are constantly evolving and improving - finding new ways in which to get things done. We are innovators.🎨

We learn from making mistakes and having experiences - both good and bad. The ability to remember is essential - but too much time spent remembering negative experiences can increase our stress and plunge us into a negative thinking spiral.🤔

Your mistakes and embarrassments only prove that you got out there and tried to create something. Your past does not need to follow you about like a shadow – leave it where it belongs and keep moving forward.👍

🛌 Duvet Days Aren’t Lazy—They’re Necessary.
Sometimes, the most productive thing you can do… is nothing at all.

If your body is tired and your mind feels foggy, a "duvet day" might be exactly what you need. Rest isn’t indulgent—it’s essential for your nervous system to reset and recharge.

Here’s why duvet days are good for you:
💤 They help regulate stress hormones
🧠 They give your brain time to process and restore
💛 They teach you self-compassion instead of burnout

You don’t have to earn rest by being exhausted.
You’re allowed to pause simply because you need to.

✨ And when you return to your routine, you do so with more clarity, calm, and energy.

So if today feels heavy…
Stay under the duvet. Breathe. Be gentle with yourself. That is healing.

When anxiety kicks in, your brain shifts into survival mode.
That’s not weakness—it’s your nervous system doing its job.
But staying in that state? That’s where burnout begins.

An anxious brain can’t prioritize.
It can’t focus, think clearly, or feel motivated.
Understanding this is the first step to changing it.

Next time you’re stuck in the overwhelm spiral, try this:
✅ Step away
✅ Take 5 deep breaths
✅ Choose ONE simple task
Small steps lead to big changes.

You don’t have to stay in survival mode.
Hypnotherapy can help you feel grounded, focused, and back in control.
Your mind deserves peace—your work deserves you at your best.

Feeling like your mind is out of control, with random thoughts appearing constantly, can make you feel overwhelmed. However, it's possible to train your brain to think more positively and constructively. Hypnosis and solution-focused therapy can help you develop this skill, enabling you to better manage your thoughts. Many clients are surprised by how their life can change for the better - once they regain control over their mind.

Most people would recognise nowadays that the health of the body, mind and spirit are interdependent. Often when one is not quite right, the others suffer. Therefore, as a solution focused hypnotherapist I do not just focus on the presenting problem - we talk about life in general. This approach helps my clients to get to know themselves, what they want and to create a new toolkit for coping with life now and in the future.

Sometimes the thought of applying systems to our task list can seem more daunting that the tasks themselves. However, getting organised can help us to see what our priorities really are - with a clear and organised system we can confidently choose what to work on at any given time, trusting our intuition and bringing focus to the present task.
