Healing & Meditation with Mustangs
Our resident herd of Mustangs are all that remains of a conservation project herd and are descendants of the Native American or Indian Poniesββ of the Great Horse Tribes
ββ The Great Horse Tribes treated their mustangs as brothers and sisters and shared their home with them, they wandered freely among the tipis, they were brave enough to carry the warrior into battle, gentle enough to carry the children and infirm & fast enough to chase buffalo in the great hunt,
The Elders say they came from deep inside the Earth as a gift from Great Spirit for her children, this is why they called them Tasunka or Spirit Dog, some had special talents & these Sacred Medicine Ponies became the Ceremonial Mount of the Medicine Men and Woman
They are now living in Scotland where they have become wonderful Healers & Teachers, they love meeting new humans who are ready to listen & learn the Healing Ways of the Medicine Pony

The war of the Horsetail - got a bit impatient (surely not ! π²) waiting for the Horsetail to die π before the herd move in, so it's now buried under the carpet π hopefully once it rains the carpet will bed down nicely and become part of the pond surface, we spotted some dragonflies π§ moseying around the bit we did last week which is promising - unfortunately the cattail I bought had turned to mush so not holding my breath on that front ( note to self don't buy any more bargain basement plants π)

DO HORSES GRIEVE WHEN THEY LOSE A COMPANION?
Many horse people sense it. Now, recent research provides more evidence that yes β when a companion horse dies, many horses exhibit grief-like responses that can last for months.
This study examined behavioural changes in horses following the death of a companion. Of 325 owners who responded to the study survey, many reported noticeable changes in their surviving horseβs behaviour after the loss.
What the study found:
β’ Within the first 24 hours after the death of a companion, most horses showed changes in behaviour: heightened arousal (β 89 %), altered interaction with other horses (~78 %), changed behaviour toward humans (~78 %), increased alertness to environmental stimuli (~73 %), and more vocalisation (~69 %).
β’ Many horses continued to show shifts in behaviour, mood, or social engagement up to six months after the loss.
β’ The strength of the bond matters: horses in close βaffectionateβ relationships showed more pronounced changes β especially around feeding, interacting, or being around others.
β’ Whether a horse could stay near the body of the deceased companion also influenced how certain behaviours (like vocalisation, excitement about feeding, or interaction) evolved over time. Those unable to access or witness what happened showed more persistent distress, especially heightened vigilance and arousal over time.
Grieving the loss of a companion has real welfare implications. Grief isnβt just a nice sentiment or a human emotion we project onto horses β for survivor horses, loss can cause real, lasting effects that have long-term impact. Mood, appetite, energy, social behaviour, and interest in human interactions can all be disrupted.
The way death is handled on a yard makes a difference. Allowing time and presence with the deceased, recognising behaviour changes early, and offering extra care can help reduce the impact:
β’ Watch for changes in the first 24 hours and beyond: look for changes in feeding, sleeping, social behaviour, mood, vigilance and interaction with people.
β’ Be aware that healing takes time: six months or more is not uncommon.
β’ If possible, allow surviving horses to be near the body or to witness (if safe and feasible). This seems to reduce some prolonged stress.
β’ Give the surviving horses an opportunity to acknowledge the loss: presence near the body, opportunity to witness or experience what happened (safely and appropriately) seems to help.
β’ Provide extra care, enrichment, predictable routine, and gentle handling β especially for horses with strong bonds.
Remember that grief is individual. Some horses bounce back quickly, others need more time. Both deserve care and compassion.

The White Horse of Feathers
The elders tell of a sacred White Horse, born from the light of the moon and the strength of the mountains. His mane carried the winds of the four directions, and upon his head were feathers given by the Eagle, the Hawk, and the Owl, so that he might see with wisdom, fly with spirit, and walk with courage.
He was a gift to the people, not only for travel or battle, but as a teacher. The White Horse showed them that freedom comes with responsibility: to respect the earth beneath their hooves, to honor the sky above, and to walk in balance with all living things. His eyes, deep and steady, reminded them that true strength is not in domination, but in harmony.
The people adorned him with patterns of turquoise, red, and gold, each bead a prayer, each feather a promise. When he ran across the plains, the earth itself seemed to breathe with him, and the people knew the Great Spirit was near.
The story says that when a rider dreams of the White Horse, it means their spirit is being called to awakenβto walk with honor, to protect the land, and to carry the sacred traditions into the future.

Quite pleased with Buffy's makeshift stable, a wee bit flappy but so far so good, let's see how long it lasts, π€ meanwhile despite having some excellent straw in the shed Sundancer is fascinated with this rank bale on the muckheap, I'm just going to pretend it's an enrichment effort π

Rebalance your life through the Way of the Medicine Pony & the Shamanic Wheel of balance with ancient Wisdom from the Ancestors
1-1 Sessions or small group medicine circles available in Scotland
Horses have done so much for us over the years that we owe it to them to Listen to what they say and introduce some Energy Healing into their daily routine - We also owe it to ourselves to take time out from our busy schedules for some self care - Energy Healing is useful for many conditions, has no side effects & will often succeed when all else has failed. βThe energy will stimulate their natural endorphins, reduce pain and ease emotional distress and can be used alongside conventional veterinary care, assisting in the speedy recovery of injuries after surgery
It can also be very useful in managing behavioural difficulties which are often caused by stress or from some of the horses basic needs not being met. It will help re balance the horse emotionally and once the stress level has dissipated often the behaviour will reduce or in some instances disappear altogether. introducing regular healing sessions into your horses routine will also help create a stronger partnership
Training Courses - We offer a range of Healing courses from introductory level to advanced level for those horse lovers who intend to open their own Equine Healing Business - Most of our course will be run with the support of the Medicine Pony Mustang herd
