Our friends at SAMH have announced the venue of The Nook in Aberdeen. This will provide valuable access in the city centre for walk in mental health support.

When we announced The Nook earlier this year, we told you about our plan to open a network of walk-in mental health support hubs across Scotland. With our Glasgow hub set to open very soon, we can now announce the location of our next Nook...

Marischal Square in the centre of Aberdeen will be home to the next Nook in our line up and will be a place for the whole community to access mental health support without the traditional barriers like referrals and waitlists.

At The Nook in Aberdeen, anyone can ask once and get help fast with their mental health.

Stay tuned to find out more as we create The Nook in Aberdeen and announce its opening date next year.

“SAMH’s services are essential in combatting the mental health crisis, especially The Nook.”

Earlier this month we spoke to Zander Murray, Scotland’s first openly gay professional football, about his mental health journey ⚽

“Back in 2021, my mental health and my own self-talk were just constant negativity. It did impact me.

“I engaged with a lot of different mental health supports. I’ve tried counselling, mindfulness, journalling, improving my diet, among others. Some of these have really helped me, but I’ve learned it’s often about being holistic. It’s not always one thing that helps, but a combination.

“I was very lucky to have a family support network. Friends and people in the football community also reached out to me.”

“For any LGBTQ+ sportsperson thinking about coming out, it can feel like the world is against you. But what you might not see is the outpouring of love and support you’re going to get. Friends, family and people in the football community got in touch to support me.

“When you’re ready, life gets so much better.”

What a privilege to join SAMH on board the Morgenstar this morning. ICPC Health is working closely with SAMH and joint fundraising possibilities. Good to meet so many people interested in raising awareness of mental health issues in Aberdeen. Not too long until The Nook comes to fruition - a self-referral, safe space for people who need a listening ear.
