Today was a truly special day spent with some of our wonderful ladies, many of whom shared heartfelt memories of their childhood during the war years.
We were especially honoured to be joined by the lovely Jean, who recalled being just 6 years old when war was announced. Listening to her memories of sirens sounding, families gathering under the table for safety because there were no shelters, and the resilience they showed was both humbling and inspiring. What stood out most was not fear, but the warmth with which these remarkable ladies remembered those times — despite having so little, they spoke of them as some of their best years because they had what mattered most: family, togetherness, and happiness.
Jan shared memories of living with her mum, sister, auntie, and cousins all under one roof — proving that even in the hardest times, love and unity carried them through. Their reflections were a powerful reminder that sometimes life’s greatest joys come from the simplest things.
Of course, there were smiles and laughter too — with Edna choosing donuts, Jan enjoying a cream cake 🤣, followed by lunch back at Beech Court before attending a lovely church service together, complete with tea and cake.
It was a day filled with stories, reflection, laughter, and precious companionship. Spending meaningful time away from the computer and truly connecting with these incredible ladies has been such a gift. They have reminded us all of the importance of cherishing family, simplicity, and each other.
A truly wonderful day that has left us smiling from within. ❤️
