Strong presentation this week at Fife Networking from Julie Sullivan, Director at Young and Partners Business Lawyers.

Julie gave a clear overview of how their team supports businesses across:

What stood out was the practical case studies — from negotiating tenant-friendly commercial leases and managing complex refinance transactions, to supporting multi-stage investments and company sales.

A key takeaway: good legal advice isn’t just about documentation — it’s about protecting commercial objectives, managing risk early, and putting businesses in a stronger position for growth.

Great value in the room at Fife Networking this week, with two member presentations.

🏡 Homes by Dominique - Duncan McIntosh
Duncan McIntosh shared the story behind a family-run, design-led business built largely on repeat work and word-of-mouth referrals. The key takeaway was simple but powerful: great referrals come from listening. Whether it’s home frustrations, wish-list conversations or plans for improvement, knowing what to listen out for makes it easier to spot opportunities and introduce the right people at the right time.

💼 Funding for British Business – Mike Horn
Mike gave a clear, practical overview of how he supports businesses with debt finance — from growth and cashflow to refinancing and restructuring. A strong reminder that funding isn’t one-size-fits-all, and that having the right guidance early can reduce risk, save time and support better long-term decisions.

The link between both presentations?
Referrals only happen when people understand what you do, who you help, and when to think of you.

Member Spotlight | Presentation Highlights

Great insight in the room today from two of our members who delivered strong presentations.

🔹 James Hurles – Howdens Kirkcaldy
James shared a practical overview of how Howdens supports the local trade, highlighting their free survey and design service, extensive product range, and the flexibility they offer through in-depot and on-site support.
A useful reminder of the value of building relationships early and how the right supplier partnership can make a real difference to projects, clients, and delivery.

🔹 Lauren Pratt – Kilmac
Lauren’s presentation focused on why early engagement matters in construction and civil engineering — from programme certainty and quality control to social value delivery and long-term client relationships.
She also shared how Kilmac’s employee-owned model, regional strength, and commitment to measurable social value supports clients while creating lasting impact in the communities they work in.

Two very different sectors, but a common theme throughout both presentations: strong relationships, early conversations, and adding value beyond the transaction.

Last week, Lorraine delivered a brilliant presentation that really brought home why networking works when it’s done properly.

With a background spanning banking, commercial lending, entrepreneurship, media, and consultancy, Lorraine brings depth, credibility and straight-talk to every conversation. Since joining Focus Business Consultancy in 2025, she’s been helping organisations take control of rising utility costs and make smarter, more sustainable decisions.

Colin Brown recently joined us at networking to share his journey and the purpose behind Gam Leap – supporting people who feel stuck, overwhelmed, or in need of a fresh start.

Great to be back in the room today with some really positive discussion to kick off the year.

We took time to review our 2025 stats, reflect on what’s worked well, and then shift the focus firmly onto 2026 expectations, goals and how we continue to add value for one another.

The energy in the room was spot on — open conversations, clear asks and a real commitment to making this year count.

A big welcome as well to our new member James Hurles - Howdens Kirkcaldy, great to have you join us already and get involved from day one.

Looking forward to building on this momentum over the weeks ahead.

🎣 Member Spotlight | Congratulations Mike!

We’re delighted to see Mike Horn, one of our Fife Networking members, currently sitting in pole position for the top prize in the Heaviest Cod League.

Based in Kirkcaldy, Mike landed an impressive 6lb 1oz cod during round two, putting him at the top of the leaderboard with three legs still to go — no small feat given the challenging sea conditions on the day.

It’s always great to celebrate the achievements of our members, both in business and beyond. Best of luck to Mike for the remaining rounds — we’ll be keeping an eye on the results!

🎄 Our Final Fife Networking Meeting of 2025! 🎄

We wrapped up the year this morning with plenty of festive spirit — Christmas jumpers, good laughs and even a surprise visit!

Congratulations to Michael Crookston and Ed Waugh, who took home today’s prizes. Well deserved!

As part of our Christmas tradition, we were proud to donate to two charities close to our hearts: Love Oliver and Fife Gingerbread. Their work makes a real difference to families at a time of year when support matters most.

This marks the end of an incredible year for the group:
✨ 900 referrals shared amongst members — a fantastic testament to the strength of our network and the commitment of everyone involved.
