The run up to Christmas as a PT… let’s talk about it 🎄✨
I’ll be honest… my mood has shifted. My motivation has dropped dramatically. I’m not getting my own training in because I’m so busy, and somehow December seems to have fewer hours in the day than any other month. And yes… I’m eating ALL the chocolate. 🍫
There are bugs going around, Christmas wrapping piling up, family members disagreeing on plans, nativity plays, Christmas events, and life happening in full force. It’s chaotic, it’s loud, it’s messy — and instead of fighting it, I’m choosing to embrace it with kindness toward myself.
So if I have zero motivation to train right now?
If I’m not calorie-counting?
Then so be it.
In January, I’ll start the cycle again — not because I’m lazy, not because I “fell off,” but because I choose to. A lot of PTs will tell you to break the yo-yo cycle, and yes, that’s great advice if you have a specific goal. But not everyone is the same, and not every approach is sustainable year-round. Life doesn’t work in straight lines, and neither do humans.
This post is your reminder — and mine — to not feel guilty for having some down time over the festive period. So what if you put on a few pounds? It’s not going to undo your hard work. We simply get back to routine when it’s time to get back to routine.
I’m not saying go mad.
I’m saying enjoy it.
These moments — when the kids are little, when our parents are still here, when the house is loud and the days are full — they’re not forever. Be here. Be present. Be human.
Unless you’re prepping for a show or a big event, it won’t kill you to relax and enjoy the festive season. Move your body when you can, drink some water… but also sing, laugh, eat the chocolate, and drink some Baileys. 🙌🎄✨
You’re doing just fine.
And you’re allowed to enjoy Christmas — fully. I intend too!
