Let’s keep talking to prevent male su***de

The statistics are shocking. Every two hours a man in the UK takes his own life and it's the biggest killer of men under 49.

Male su***de and mental health is a big issue that demands more attention. It's unacceptable that so many men are dying from su***de daily, yet there is still so much stigma surrounding this subject.

Dear Darwen Community,

We are excited to announce that St John Ambulance is returning to our cherished George Street station, thanks to the incredible generosity of an anonymous benefactor. This historic building has been a cornerstone of our community since the mid-1960s, and we're eager to continue its legacy of service.

For over a century, St John Ambulance has been an integral part of Darwen's fabric. From providing essential first aid training in the late 19th century to supporting military hospitals during the First World War, our volunteers have always risen to the occasion. The names of three of our brave members are even etched on the Boer War memorial in town, a testament to their dedication and service.

Now, as we reopen our doors, we invite you to become a community first aider. Whether you're 18 or 80, there's a place for you in our team.

As a volunteer, you will:
Learn Lifesaving Skills: Receive comprehensive first aid training, empowering you to handle emergencies with confidence.
Serve Your Community: Be a reassuring presence at local events, ready to assist whenever needed.

Forge New Friendships: Connect with like-minded individuals who share your passion for helping others.

Discover Hidden Talents: Uncover skills you never knew you had, all while making a tangible difference.
Volunteering with St John Ambulance is more than just giving your spare time; it's about belonging to an organisation with deep roots in our community. It's about carrying forward a legacy of compassion, bravery, and unwavering service.

For our younger community members aged 11-17, we're thrilled to announce the launch of our Cadet Unit. This program offers a fantastic opportunity to learn first aid, develop leadership skills, and participate in community initiatives.

Join us in this exciting new chapter. Together, we can continue to uphold the values that have made St John Ambulance a cornerstone of Darwen for generations.
