A few days on from our 2026 Annual Conference (and we’ve all warmed up after the first rainy Conference Day in a few years!), we’re sharing a few reflections…

As always, it was brilliant to bring so many people together - from across Supported Employment, policy, employers, and lived experience. What really stood out this year was the depth and honesty of the conversations.

Here are a few themes that we felt were highlighted during the Conference:
👉 It’s not just about getting people into jobs anymore
There was a real shift towards thinking about long-term careers, progression and belonging. Quality support is what turns a job into something sustainable and meaningful.

👉 The world of work is changing - quickly
AI, automation, changing labour markets… these came up again and again. But what felt important was the balance - yes, there are challenges, but also real opportunities to use these tools to reduce barriers rather than reinforce them.

👉 We can’t ignore the reality of inequality
The research shared - particularly around disabled women - was powerful and, at times, uncomfortable. It reminded us why this work matters so much, and why we need to think more deeply about intersectionality.

👉 Employers are key and they want to engage
A consistent message was that many employers do want to be more inclusive, but don’t always feel confident about how to do it or communicate what they are doing. That’s where partnerships, practical support and shared learning really come in.

👉 Inclusion isn’t about treating everyone the same
It’s about fairness - creating environments where people have what they need to succeed. That came through strongly in discussions on organisational justice and workplace culture.

👉 There’s a lot of innovation happening
From improving digital accessibility, to new ways of having better workplace conversations, to using AI to personalise support - it was encouraging to see so much creativity and commitment across the sector.

For us, the biggest takeaway was this:
There is real momentum, but also a clear recognition that we still have work to do - together.

A huge thank you to everyone who contributed - our speakers, workshop leads, partners and delegates. The conversations don’t stop here.

Our Conference Report will be sent to all delegates very soon.

Today is Global Accessibility Awareness Day - a global event to highlight digital access and inclusion for disabled people. We're shining a light of the accessibility of digital recruitment processes...

It’s a common assumption that the accessibility of your website or recruitment portal is the responsibility of the web team or the web developer who built the site, or that it is expensive or difficult to achieve. That isn’t necessarily true.

Everyone who contributes to the online recruitment process needs to consider digital accessibility. There are some elements of accessibility that you will need the help of a web developer to implement, but there are improvements you can make right now, with just a little bit of knowledge and technical know-how.

Digital accessibility is everyone's responsibility! Head to the SUSE website to read our top 10 tips on making digital recruitment fair

Online accessibility is ensuring that your website and its content can be accessed by as many people as possible including disabled and non-disabled users. The aim of online accessibility is to remove barriers that might prevent a user from fully interacting with your website, regardless of their ab...

💡 Is your workplace truly digitally accessible?
When everyday tools aren’t accessible - emails, documents, PDFs, online forms, virtual meetings, learning platforms - it isn’t just an inconvenience. It’s a productivity issue, an inclusion issue, and in many cases, a legal compliance issue.

Digital barriers can affect anyone: including disabled and neurodivergent employees. When systems aren’t accessible, people can’t work efficiently - or sometimes at all.

That’s why we’re delivering a workshop on Digital Accessibility in the Workplace: Good Practice for Disabled Staff and Employers.

In this session, we’ll break down:
✳️What digital accessibility actually means
✳️Why it matters across your whole organisation
✳️Practical good practice across everyday workplace tools - from Word documents and PDFs to Teams/Zoom, intranets, eLearning and shared systems.

If you want to build an inclusive culture, improve productivity and meet legal responsibilities, this workshop will give you the tools to get started.

Join us at the , where this workshop will be available as part of the Conference Day programme. Book tickets:

Let’s make digital accessibility everyone’s business.

SUSE Board Announcement: CEO David Cameron to Step Down

SUSE announces that David Cameron, Chief Executive Officer, has informed the Chair of the Board of his intention to step down from his role around July 2026.

David has expressed that while he has greatly valued his time at SUSE, he feels the time is right to pursue new and different challenges at this stage in his career. Over his nine years with the organisation, David has shown a deep commitment to SUSE’s mission and an unwavering passion for its work and staff team.

Reflecting on his decision, David said:
“It has been a privilege to lead SUSE and to work alongside such a dedicated and talented team. I am immensely proud of what we have achieved together. SUSE plays a vital role in Scotland’s employability landscape, and I am fully committed to supporting a smooth transition as the organisation moves into its next phase. I have every confidence in SUSE’s continued success and impact.”

David has shared his reflections on what may be required to take SUSE into its next stage of development, offering valuable insights as the Board plans ahead.

Norma Curran, Chair of the Board, expressed her appreciation, stating:
“On behalf of the Board, I thank David sincerely for his professionalism and service during his nine years at SUSE. His leadership has strengthened the organisation in meaningful and lasting ways, and we are deeply grateful for his contribution.”

The Board will begin planning for the recruitment of a new Chief Executive in due course and we will provide further updates as the process develops.
