A selection of our children's frames

Key things to know about your children's eyecare;

- Spotting vision problems early in children
is important.
- Regular sight tests are the best way to
spot vision problems.
- Sight tests for children are funded by the
NHS, and if glasses are needed, an NHS
will be issued towards the cost of
glasses.
- Some eye conditions do not display any
signs or symptoms.
- Children should have their eyes tested
by an Optometrist at least once a year.

Good vision starts with prevention and your community optometry practice team can help.

Eye examinations can help detect issues like glaucoma, macular degeneration, and even diabetes – often before you notice symptoms. In Scotland, we are fortunate to have access to NHS funded eye examinations, with no cost to the patient.

NHS-funded eye examinations are available across Scotland.

It's Cataract Awareness Month πŸ“’

πŸ‘οΈ Fun Facts About Cataracts

Cataracts are the world’s leading cause of blindness – but they’re also highly treatable with surgery that takes as little as 10–15 minutes.

Everyone will develop cataracts if they live long enough – it’s a natural part of ageing, like greying hair or wrinkles.

Cataract comes from the Latin word for β€˜waterfall’ – early doctors thought the cloudiness looked like rushing water in the eye.

Some people say colours look brighter after cataract surgery – because the yellowish tint caused by the cataract is gone.

Cataracts don’t grow β€˜on’ the eye – they develop inside the lens, gradually making vision cloudy or blurry over time.

Cataracts can develop faster with too much UV exposure – wearing sunglasses is good for your long-term eye health!

Dogs, cats, and even horses can get cataracts too – it’s not just humans!

If you are overdue for your NHS funded eye examination, book in for a full eye health check.

🌟 Healthy Vision Month – See Well, Live Well! 🌟
May is Healthy Vision Month, a time to raise awareness about the importance of eye health and encourage healthy habits that protect your vision.

πŸ‘“ Top Tips for Healthy Vision:

Get Regular Eye Exams – Early detection of eye conditions can prevent serious problems later.

Eat for Your Eyes – Incorporate foods rich in vitamins A, C, and E, as well as omega-3 fatty acids (think leafy greens, nuts, and fish).

Protect Your Eyes from UV Rays – Wear sunglasses with 100% UV protection to shield your eyes from harmful rays.

Give Your Eyes a Break – Follow the 20-20-20 rule: every 20 minutes, take a 20-second break, and look at something 20 feet away.

πŸ’¬ Share your eye health tips with us in the comments below or book an eye exam today to ensure your eyes stay healthy for years to come!
