PK OSTEOPATHY Osteopathy for women, children and babies. ScarWork™
Educational talks on women's health.

Hi, my name is Petra Kamarytova and I am an osteopath working with women, children and babies. Osteopathy can help with musculoskeletal pain such as mechanical back pain, neck pain, headaches arising from neck tension, chronic migraine prevention, arthritic knee pain, pelvic girdle pain and other aches associated with postural changes during pregnancy. I am a certified ScarWork™ practitioner, and have completed training in treatment of scar tissue after breast cancer treatment. I offer educational talks & workshops on subjects related to women's health for groups and organisations.

🌺 𝗠𝗘𝗡𝗢𝗣𝗔𝗨𝗦𝗘 𝗔𝗙𝗧𝗘𝗥 𝗖𝗔𝗡𝗖𝗘𝗥 🌺

My dissertation (already 13 years ago) was on the subject of manual therapy for chronic pelvic pain. A lot of studies I read were on pelvic pain caused by post-operative scar tissue and adhesions...that was the beginning of a much deeper journey...

I went on to complete a two year post-graduate diploma in Women's health osteopathy but I quickly realised that there was still so much more to understand specifically about scars.

𝙎𝙞𝙣𝙘𝙚 𝙩𝙝𝙚𝙣, 𝙄 𝙘𝙤𝙢𝙥𝙡𝙚𝙩𝙚𝙙 𝙛𝙪𝙧𝙩𝙝𝙚𝙧 𝙩𝙧𝙖𝙞𝙣𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙞𝙣:
• Scar tissue theory
• Manual therapy for scar tissue treatment
• Scar therapy after breast cancer treatment
• Scar therapy following other oncology treatments..and much more along the way!

And my interest in the menopause transition and scar tissue after cancer treatment led me to an organisation called 𝗠𝗲𝗻𝗼𝗽𝗮𝘂𝘀𝗲 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗖𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲𝗿 founded by Dani Binnington. I continue to train with Menopause and Cancer and promote their resources (they are fantastic!) - Menopause and Cancer Support .

I am unable to accept new patients until further notice.
This is due to reduced clinic hours over the next few weeks, a long waiting list, and to provide continuity of care to existing patients.

🌺 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗺𝘂𝗻𝗶𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗮𝘂𝘁𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗰 𝗮𝗱𝘂𝗹𝘁𝘀🌺

Communication is key. There can be a fine line between positive communication and miscommunication, and when that line is crossed it can lead to trauma. And although I am aware of this I don’t always get it right. This is why I continue to train in communication in fields of my clinical interest.

So when my favourite training provider, Breastfeeding Conferences Australia, offered a course on communication relating to the mother & baby dyad I signed up. All lectures were great, but the highlight for me was a lecture by 𝘿𝙧. 𝘼𝙞𝙢𝙚𝙚 𝙂𝙧𝙖𝙣𝙩 𝙛𝙧𝙤𝙢 𝙎𝙬𝙖𝙣𝙨𝙚𝙖 𝙐𝙣𝙞𝙫𝙚𝙧𝙨𝙞𝙩𝙮 on 𝘚𝘶𝘱𝘱𝘰𝘳𝘵𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘢𝘶𝘵𝘪𝘴𝘵𝘪𝘤 𝘱𝘦𝘰𝘱𝘭𝘦 𝘵𝘰 𝘣𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘴𝘵𝘧𝘦𝘦𝘥 𝘵𝘩𝘳𝘰𝘶𝘨𝘩 𝘣𝘦𝘵𝘵𝘦𝘥 𝘶𝘯𝘥𝘦𝘳𝘴𝘵𝘢𝘯𝘥𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘰𝘧 𝘢𝘶𝘵𝘪𝘴𝘵𝘪𝘤 𝘤𝘰𝘮𝘮𝘶𝘯𝘪𝘤𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯, 𝘴𝘦𝘯𝘴𝘰𝘳𝘺 𝘱𝘳𝘰𝘤𝘦𝘴𝘴𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘥𝘪𝘧𝘧𝘦𝘳𝘦𝘯𝘤𝘦𝘴 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘢𝘶𝘵𝘪𝘴𝘵𝘪𝘤 𝘣𝘰𝘥𝘪𝘦𝘴.

As a result, my new patient intake form also includes a question about your, or your child’s, additional needs and how I can make the appointment more comfortable and accessible for you/ them.

Many women become very good at masking, they find ways how to compensate for their sensory processing differences and often don’t get appropriately assessed until later in life - when they reach the menopause transition, or when their daughters get their own assessment.

And therefore, I would like to share some resources that Dr. Grant highlighted:

▪️hold themselves in a “banana” shape
▪️prefer looking to one side, which may lead to flattening at the back of the head (on one side or in the centre)
▪️arch a lot - yes, this can be due to muscular tension, not just reflux, and usually both
▪️feel a little “stiff” like a bag of flour or a little “strung” like a bow - or you might have been told that their neck is very strong for their age - that can also be a sign of tension rather than strength
▪️have feeding difficulties - whether breast or bottle (tongue tie and tension usually go hand in hand) - swallow extra air as a result which causes further discomfort
▪️cry frequently without an obvious reason (when other issues were excluded - or alongside other issues such as CMPA - cow’s milk protein allergy)
▪️being really ahead of their developmental milestones - such as rolling from early on (before the age of 4 months).

There are often many small signs that when considered together tell a story.

🌺🌺 𝗠𝗘𝗡𝗢𝗣𝗔𝗨𝗦𝗘 𝗘𝗗𝗨𝗖𝗔𝗧𝗜𝗢𝗡 𝗨𝗣𝗗𝗔𝗧𝗘 🌺🌺

The International Menopause Society (of which I am a member) invited menopause practitioners to apply for their annual Menopause & Midlife Health Colloquium - a 12 month course with a session each month....after 2 weeks of working on my CV and my application/ personal statement I found out I didn't get in.

My disappointment was short-lived as I realised that there were only 20 places worldwide (that's some tough competition), and more importantly I was still granted a live access although only as an observer - and that is amazing 🌺

Today was our first session, which was really enjoyable - I will be integrating some knowledge gained into my Introduction to menopause presentation that I will be delivering again this year.

I look forward to seeing you in early part of this year at my next talk 🌺

Switching baby formula brands is a frequent topic in my clinic with new parents, and although I regularly train in paediatric nutrition, I do not feel that as an osteopath I am in a position to make recommendations and rather refer to specialists - I am so glad to see this coming from a feeding specialist - thank you Lucy Webber for all the work you do - being a new parent can be overwhelming and providing this information and support is invaluable!🌺

With the current recall of certain batches of SMA in the UK, a reminder that you can switch to other brands.

It is a myth that you need to remain with one brand, put out to create brand loyalty.

🌺 𝗛𝗔𝗣𝗣𝗬 𝗡𝗘𝗪 𝗬𝗘𝗔𝗥 𝗧𝗢 𝗘𝗩𝗘𝗥𝗬𝗢𝗡𝗘 🌺

Reviewing 2025, I would like to say thank you to everyone who entrusted me with their health. All I can ever promise is to give you my best and that’s why I continue to study far beyond what is required for my registration as an osteopath.

Thank you also to everyone who attended my talks and courses. Your feedback has been wonderful, and it means so much to know that the work I do is making a difference 🌺

Looking ahead to 2026, I hope to help even more babies start life at their very best. Did you know that osteopathy may help babies too? Musculoskeletal issues in babies can sometimes present as:
🔸 a preference for turning their head to one side leading to a flattening at the back of their head
🔸 breastfeeding difficulties which may be caused by tension around their jaw, neck, shoulders, or upper back
🔸 challenges with developmental milestones, such as a delay, reaching them too early or uneven movement
All these may be helped with gentle osteopathic treatment.

Thank you again for your trust and support 🌺

📣 𝗜𝗦 𝗧𝗛𝗘𝗥𝗘 𝗦𝗧𝗜𝗟𝗟 𝗜𝗡𝗧𝗘𝗥𝗘𝗦𝗧?📣

I have been delivering my community talks on female health since 2023.

I organised them in Harray, Stromness, Kirkwall & St. Margaret's Hope. I also collaborated with Home-Start Orkney, Roosa and Development Trusts of Rousay, Shapinsay & Hoy.

As I am planning 2026, could you please help me with the following:
- Is there still interest in these talks?
- Which locations?
- Same topics?
- Any other topics that you'd like to see covered?

Thank you for your feedback 🌺

📨📨📨 I just returned from a fantastic 4-day course working with the thorax, thoracic inlet and anterior neck structures, also including the collar bones, ribs and muscles associated with breathing, as well as all the organs inside the ribcage and ligaments that can get tight as a result of injuries, surgeries, illnesses or just normal life.

The Barral Institute UK is an organisation with high quality courses for manual therapist, and I love the fact that they bring together all kinds of practitioners leading to great little collaborations amongst osteopaths, chiropractors, physiotherapist and other manual therapists.

I met a fantastic practitioner Elodie Gauthier who is based in Glasgow. Elodie is a physiotherapist specialising in performing arts medicine, amongst others she is working with BAPAM - British Association for performing arts medicine - the medical charity for the performing arts.

We have Holly Elliot at Helping Hands Health with background in dance here in Orkney, and for those involved in performing arts based in Glasgow needing a little bit of assistance, I recommend looking Elodie up:
