Grateful for being asked to teach at the Blide Trust this year. Last year I did two sessions and this year I was lucky enough to be asked back for 8 more. Its so beautiful to see the benefit of the yoga practice before my very eyes.

Some feedback after the practice:

"I slowed down enough to focus on the good things"

"It felt like an oasis in the darkness"

"It was like a sanctuary, moving mindfully with the breath and body"

I found yoga in a time of deep darkness and prolonged self harm. It too felt like a ray of light in the dark and has, over the years, continued to help me grow that light into what feels like a constant now.

I'm so thankful to have this practice and be able to share it with others. To all that brings out our light, namaste πŸ™

There are some great asanas (poses) that theme with the moon.

In tonight's Vinyasa class we did the Chandra Namaskara, a very energising and dynamic flow. This Wednesday/Thursday is the full moon, so I thought it's be fun to carry the theme over to Thursday as well, as we also dwell on the final 5 limbs of Yoga.

Expect some crescent moons, a supine uttitha Tadasana, and maybe a balasana. I've toyed with exploring how to make a crescent lunge restorative, so bare with me, I may include it as well!

See you on the mat 🌝 🧘 🌝

We did a modified version of the Ashtanga Primary Sequence in the Tuesday Yoga Flow class tonight, as we're finally off the Yamas and Niyamas and onto the 3rd limb of yoga: Asana (posture).

As you all found, it can be a very intense practice! Wonderful work on the mat giving it your all everyone.

When you're practing Ashtanga you often do it every morning or as many mornings as you can do a week. It's about an hour and a half sequence and it's the same everytime. The repetition is intentional. The practice becomes a mirror for the fluctuations of your mind and body over time, same practice each time, different experiences. It allows you to reflect on these perterbations, which it is the purpose of the practice of Yoga to exist within and steady one's self amongst.

As Patanjali writes in his Yoga Sutras (est written between 500bce and 400ce), Yoga is Chitta Vrtti Nirodaha... Stilling the perterbations/fluctuations of the mind. And it's this 8 Limbed approach that Patanjali outlines as the path to experience this. Asana, posture, is just one of the limbs and it's so important as yogis & yoginis that when we practice (on the mat or off) we also honor the others.

We have 4 more limbs to explore in one more session, so head over to www.picktime.com/sarasanayoga if you're interested in exploring them next week.

🌿 Spring Equinox Celebration 🌿

Movement β€’ Breath β€’ Sound β€’ Cacao β€’ Connection

As the Spring Equinox arrives, we reach a beautiful moment of balance; where day and night are equal and the returning light invites renewal, movement, and fresh energy.

To mark this seasonal turning point, Sophie, Sara, and Alison are coming together to host a nourishing afternoon of movement, conscious connected breathwork, sound, cacao, and connection.

Inspired by the Air element, we’ll explore practices that invite movement, breath, sound, and deep listening. Awakening the body, calming the mind, and reconnecting us to ourselves and each other.

✨ Gentle awakening movement (chair & mat-based)
✨ Guided Conscious Connected breathwork journey and sound bath
✨ Seasonal cacao ritual for integration and reflection
✨ Grounding movement and collective sound
✨ Tea, conversation, and space to connect

The Air element invites clarity, communication, and fresh perspective, helping us release what no longer serves and welcome new possibilities.

We aim to create a supportive and inclusive space, open to everyone. Move at your own pace and engage with the practices in a way that feels right for you.

Had the joy (with a healthy dash of nerves!) of heading down to Inverness to speak on the closing panel for participants of the 8-year long programme IMPACT30.

I find social business/networking situations very nerve wracking! So no photos of the event as for the first half I was completely disregulated and for the second half I was enjoying that I felt more settled and had moved through the nerves.

I did IMPACT30 in 2022-2023 as part of cohort 7, specifically for . Since then I've joined in Sarasana Yoga, and .studio under the umbrella of Sara Friend - Yoga, Doula and Studio Services. I've expanded to teaching 8 classes a week from 3, designed our own Hypnobirthing and Birth Preparation Course with .doula and have a new project in the works to reach those beyond Orkney.

Throughout the 8 years, IMPACT30 had 15 cohorts training over 300 young entrapranuers from across the Highlands and Islands in a year long business programme. It's been a huge launch pad for me and and given me the confidence to expand and juggle. It's woven in many great connections, from resources to organisations to utilise.

Thank you πŸ™

The trip and travel time has been great for me continuing the Embodied Philosophy course on Vedic Philosophy (with teacher Edwin Bryant) and the Advanced Practitioner Accessible/Chair Yoga training with (Jivana Heyman) I've been doing. It's been a few years since I did a specifically yoga focused CPD and I've missed it. The focused growth with my previous knowledge base was important, but boy do I love learning and geeking out about yoga!

Oh yes, & it was fabulous to pass Judith Glues shop and see a little bit of Orkney in Inverness!

Some accidental ASMR and a little peak at what we did in the first ever class of Intro to Yoga tonight.

Yoga is so so much more than just Asana (postures), and while we will spend a lot of time on that in this series, I do love to give students a grounding of yoga philosophy and history (mainly overview of the schools of thought).

So good to see some familiar faces there. You don't have to be a newbie to yoga to get benefit from this course. Refreshing the basics can be so beneficial, even for an experienced practitioner.

Great feedback too, thank you everyone who came, nearly a full house too!

(also I'm sure there is more to the Kundalini lineage side... Tbh I'm just not that knowledgeable in that kind of Yoga, so please enlighten me if you know πŸ™)
