Trainee Optical Assistant

Hannah excelled in her first role as an Optical Receptionist and has since moved into a Trainee Optical Assistant role, and is completing her Level 5 Certificate in Optical Care. Having first-hand experience of how important glasses are in daily life, she's great at helping people choose frames that suit them perfectly.

Trainee Optical Assistant

Working at Clarks marks a bit of a pivot for Rebecca — many of you will know her for her creative cakes and bakes. She’s swapped mixing bowls for spectacle frames, and we’re very glad she did.

What do you love most about Clarks?

“I love the team I work with and how much variety there is within the job.”

What do you love most about living in Orkney?

“I love being part of a small community and how many people I have met through local clubs like swimming, cycling and running.”

A keen endurance athlete, Rebecca has even run two marathons back to back 👏🏼💪 — and with her love of Oakleys, she may well become our resident sports eyewear guru.

We’re doing our very best to keep things running smoothly with a reduced team — here’s what to expect:

🚶‍♀️ We have limited capacity for walk-in enquiries

⏰ We’ll be closed to walk-ins between 1pm–2pm. If you have an appointment booked at this time, it will go ahead as planned and we will be expecting you. Please knock on arrival and a member of the team will be with you.

📧 For routine enquiries, responses may take a little longer than normal. If it is not urgent, we would be grateful if it could wait until next week. Non-urgent queries can also be emailed to info@clarkopto.co.uk, which may be easier for us to manage than phone calls during this period.

🤝 You may notice our team assisting more than one patient at a time as we work through a busy week.

👓 Glasses collections and orders may take slightly longer than usual.

As always urgent eye concerns will be prioritised. If you experience eye pain, sudden vision changes, flashes, floaters or other acute symptoms, please call us and we will ensure you are looked after.

We are currently operating with a reduced team, and our clinics and admin capacity are tighter than usual.

Urgent eye concerns will always be prioritised. If you experience eye pain, sudden changes in vision, flashes, floaters or other acute symptoms, please contact us.

For routine enquiries, there may be a longer wait for a response than normal. If it is not urgent, we would be grateful if it could wait until next week.

A quick update for next week

We’d like to let patients know that next week we will be operating with a reduced team due to illness coinciding with pre-planned annual leave.

Our priority will always be urgent and clinically necessary care. However, response times for phone calls, emails and general enquiries may be a little slower than usual.

If your enquiry is routine and can safely wait, we would be very grateful if it could be directed to us the following week instead.

With February half term here, it’s a good time to remind families that children’s eye tests are free on the NHS and play an important part in learning, confidence and everyday life.

Children don’t always realise their vision isn’t quite right — so routine eye tests can help spot issues early, before they start to affect schoolwork or activities.

If your child hasn’t had an eye test recently, or you’ve noticed them squinting, rubbing their eyes or struggling to concentrate, our friendly team is always happy to help.
