Today is World Kindness Day, a reminder that even the smallest gestures can have a big impact. 💜

Kindness matters every day, but today is a special opportunity to reach out and make someone’s day a little brighter. If you know someone living with dementia, here are a few simple, meaningful ways to show you care.

When someone has dementia, reminders around the home can help maintain independence, improve safety, and reduce anxiety. Effective reminders should be simple, clear, and placed where they are most needed.

Having reminders around the home can help a person with dementia stay safe, manage daily tasks and remain independent for as long as possible.

Here are our top reminders around the home. 👇

🏷️Use labels to mark drawers, cupboards, or containers. Clear labels help you remember what’s inside.

📍Set up a notice board where you can pin notes, appointment cards, and reminders.

📞Leave recorded voice messages on your phone or a dedicated device. These can serve as reminders for tasks or appointment.

📅Use calendars with large boxes for each day. Record appointments, birthdays, and other important dates.

Forfar group on tomorrow but with a wee room change due to a Befriending Week coffee morning being held in our usual room (which we will hopefully pinch some nice treats from! 😁). So instead of going in our normal door please instead come in through the VAA main reception to avoid the stairs, I've made a quick video to show you all which I'll share in the comments 💜

We are posting on behalf of Strathmore Community Rugby Trust. They currently run Sporting Memories sessions in Kirriemuir and are hoping to increase their reach.

The Sporting Memories project is delivered in partnership with Strathmore Cricket Club. Sporting Memories is open to the whole community but targets adults aged 50 plus, and those living with dementia, depression and/or loneliness. It aims to reduce isolation, improve participants mental wellbeing and improve participants physical wellbeing. The activities delivered stimulate and encourage participants to relive their memories about sports. As well as discussion, participants are given the opportunity to take part in activity suited to their abilities. By sharing memories of sporting moments and tapping into participants passion for sport, the project helps people to connect with others and with their past, reawakening positive thoughts and feelings that otherwise may remain hidden away.

The website gives more details about the sessions - https://www.strathmoretrust.co.uk/project/sporting-memories/

Monthly sessions – Kirriemuir

First Thursday of every month at Kirriemuir Library, 1.30-3.30pm
Third Thursday of every month at Kirrie Connections, 1-3pm
