Children from Peel Park Primary School and residents at Anchor - Ashcroft care home exchanged stories of growing up in different eras during a recent visit.

The visit from Peel Park Primary School was made possible by The Linking Network and its Intergenerational Linking programme. The programme brings together young people in schools with older people living in care homes, independent living or from community groups.

The team at Anchor - Berkeley Court care home Leeds have been celebrating after being classed as ‘good’ by the Care Quality Commission (CQC), the second highest rating possible.

The CQC’s robust inspection process gives care homes a rating of outstanding, good, requires improvement, or inadequate based on five categories. Berkeley Court care home was rated good in the three categories inspected.

The CQC inspectors were impressed by colleagues at Berkeley Court respecting people’s preferences and choices and encouraging independence. Inspectors noted that Anchor colleagues were kind and respectful and ensured that people had access to the care and support they required.

This afternoon, our reminiscence group gathered to celebrate and discuss Yorkshire Day. We shared memories, stories, and traditions connected to Yorkshire, its heritage, and what it means to us. From the rolling hills of the Dales to the vibrant cities like Leeds and Sheffield, everyone had something personal and heartwarming to contribute.

We talked about the White Rose of Yorkshire, the significance of the day itself, and even some favorite Yorkshire foods like parkin, Yorkshire puddings, and a good strong cup of tea. Laughter and nostalgia filled the room as we recalled past celebrations, family traditions, and local sayings.

It was a joyful and meaningful session, reminding us of the strong sense of identity and pride that Yorkshire folk carry with them—no matter where they are.

We’ve been proudly celebrating Yorkshire Day here at The Manor House, Knaresborough!
To mark the occasion, we hosted a lovely coffee morning where residents gathered to share memories, stories, and plenty of laughter. It was a real treat to hear everyone reminiscing about life in Yorkshire over the years — from village fetes to seaside holidays, and everything in between.

Our brilliant chef Leslie baked traditional curd tarts, which brought back lots of fond memories and were thoroughly enjoyed with a good old Yorkshire brew. The lounge was filled with conversation, smiles, and that unmistakable Yorkshire spirit.

It’s always special when our residents come together to celebrate something close to their hearts, and today really reminded us just how proud we are to be part of such a strong and warmhearted community.

The ladies are looking fabulous ✨

Well done to the team at Overstone House who recently completed a challenging 26-mile walk in support of Alzheimer's Society, raising £4435 for the vital cause.

The walk marks just one of several community initiatives at Overstone House. The team's fundraising efforts continue with another event in August - a local community dog show and funday where all monies raised will go to Veterans with Dogs, a charity that supplies therapy dogs to veterans.

Meet our front of house manager, Julie 👋

Julie is quite often people’s first point of contact when they connect with The Manor House Knaresborough. One of Julie’s main responsibilities is supporting people and their loved ones with enquiries around moving in for short or long term stays. What some people may not know is that Julie has worked here for 9 years, she spent her first 5 years as a Team Leader so has got lots of first hand experience and has created some great bonds with residents, relatives, and colleagues. Julie is a real beacon for people who come to us looking for guidance.

A lovely morning out with the gentlemen from The Manor House today!
We enjoyed a walk up to our local market here in Knaresborough, taking in the sights, soaking up the sunshine, and even stopping for a friendly chat with the town crier — a real highlight! After browsing the stalls and a refreshing drink in the warm weather, we made our way back home just in time for a well-earned lunch.

There’s nothing better than fresh air, good conversation, and a few familiar faces around town.

🎶 What a truly joyful afternoon here at The Manor House! 🎶

We were delighted to welcome back the ever-wonderful Joanna from Musical Moments for an uplifting and interactive music session that had the whole room smiling. From the very first note, the energy was infectious — residents were singing along, waving their hands in the air, and truly immersing themselves in the rhythm and melodies.

With an array of fun instruments to shake, tap and jingle, every person had the opportunity to join in, whether keeping the beat on a tambourine, swaying along with colourful scarves, or simply enjoying the familiar tunes and memories they brought with them. Music always has a special way of lifting spirits and connecting people, and this session was no exception — the room was full of laughter, singing voices, and genuine joy.

These are the moments that matter: feeling seen, heard, and part of something meaningful. Thank you to Joanna for creating such a magical space for our residents to express themselves and enjoy the simple but powerful joy of music together. 🎵💜✨

Today we celebrated our lovely resident and friend Audrey with a special lunch and a glass of wine. Surrounded by laughter and friendly faces, it was a perfect reminder of the friendships that grow here at The Manor House.

Moving into a care home doesn’t mean leaving friendships behind—it means gaining a whole new circle of people to share life’s special moments with. And birthdays are always better when celebrated together!
