Knaresborough Community First Responders

Knaresborough Community First Responders The Community First Responder (CFR) scheme is a life-saving partnership between Yorkshire Ambulance Service NHS Trust (YAS) and local communities.

An amazing Team of volunteer Community First Responders (CFR's), trained by Yorkshire Ambulance Service to respond to medical 999 calls in & around Knaresborough. As authorised volunteers for YAS, Community First Responders form teams located in communities across Yorkshire as part of a wider initiative which aims to help reduce the number of pre-hospital deaths in Yorkshire. New recruits will join hundreds of volunteers living in local communities across the region who are trained to provide life-saving treatment to residents in their area in the vital first minutes of an emergency until our ambulance clinicians arrive. YAS is committed to providing the high quality services to and care to all those living in, or passing through, Yorkshire and this initiative undoubtedly helps to achieve this. MAKE A DIFFERENCE. Happy Friday, Yorkshire. As we move in to the weekend, by making the right choice when it comes to NHS services. If it isn't an emergency, consider:

- Pharmacy
- 111.nhs.uk
- GP

We may have been quiet on social media, but the team have continued their voluntary dedication to responding. Lately being really busy.
Just this weekend two of the team (George & Nigel) have attended two separate cardiac arrests. Thankfully achieving a return of spontaneous circulation (ROSC) in both cases, where the patients were then transferred to hospital for further treatment.

A fantastic team effort by everyone involved to “making a difference”. 💔⚡️💚

A huge thanks from Nigel Threlfall our duty Responder to the locals that came to the aid of a patient who’d fallen on Cawthorn Avenue earlier today. Hot water bottles, coats blankets, even a Land Rover was offered to aid transfer to hospital, then helping hands to lift them on to the Ambulance trolley.

A great community effort 💚👍🏻

I’d just like to wish everyone a merry Christmas and a healthy New Year.

I would also like to give a special thanks & appreciate our volunteer CFR’s - George, Jason, Mike, Nigel & Patrick who have tirelessly continued to be be on call throughout the year. Month on month, they manage to fill our rota, usually giving over triple the amount of hours to what is expected. No matter what the challenge they keep giving their time and caring for our community.
With their additional PPE and some new kit (most of the team have undergone further ‘Falls’ training, so that they can safely get a patient off the floor without always needing an ambulance crew, thus freeing them up for more life-threatening calls) the team have dug deep and soldiered on businesses usual.

So this post is to thank our silent hero’s for their dedication and to get the recognition they deserve.

Stay safe, remember the fallen & celebrate VE Day with pride 🇬🇧
