👭We marked World Kindness Day yesterday in our dementia day clubs by talking about friendship and the everyday ways in which we support each other. Our members also made some beautiful bouquets with a message to take home for someone they care about 💐

Some amazing pieces from our day clubs this week-at this rate, we'll soon be opening our own art gallery! 🎨💫

💙PINCH ME - It's Not What You Think!💙

In dementia care, "PINCH ME" isn't just a saying- it's a vital reminder for carers and professionals to check for simple, treatable causes when someone's behaviour or confusion changes.

Each letter stands for something to check:

💛P -Pain
🦠I- Infection
🥗N -Nutrition
🚽C -Constipation
💧H -Hydration
💊M -Medication
🏡E -Environment

Sometimes a small change- like a glass of water, a calm space, or checking for discomfort - can make a big difference.

A quick PINCH ME check can help find the cause and get the right support sooner. At our day clubs, we know that every change tells a story- and by using PINCH ME, we make sure that every person feels seen, heard, and cared for.🌿

We’re so proud to share that the founders of The Rainbow Care Group, Natalie Dobson and Megan Bradbury have been honoured with the Outstanding Contribution to Health and Social Care Award 2025 🏆

This award recognises the years of dedication from Natalie and Megan to transforming dementia care across the UK — changing lives by focusing on the person, not the diagnosis.

Through compassion, creativity, and evidence-based therapy, The Rainbow Care Group has helped thousands of families stay together at home for longer, improving wellbeing and slowing the progression of dementia through meaningful therapy, activity and support. 💜

✨ A huge thank you to everyone who’s been part of this journey — our teams, families, and communities. Together, we’re proving that dementia care can be brighter, individualised, and full of joy.

At our clubs this week, we've reflected on the service and sacrifice of all those who gave so much for others. Together, we've shared memories, talked about what Remembrance Day means to us, and created our own poppies to honour those who served, both on the front line and at home.

Their courage, commitment, and sense of duty continue to inspire us.

🌇Coping with Sundowning as the Days Get Darker🌙

Has your loved one become more unsettled since the clocks went back?

As the evenings draw in and daylight fades earlier, some people living with dementia can experience increased confusion, agitation, or restlessness- often known as sundowning.

Having a regular routine and taking part in meaningful activities during the day can make a real difference. Gentle movement, social interaction, and purposeful activity all help promote better sleep, boost mood, and bring a sense of calm later in the day.

Here are a few tips for those darker months:
💡Keep rooms bright and cosy in the late afternoon and evening
🚶‍♂️Encourage gentle exercise or a walk in natural daylight
🍵Wind down with a warm drink and quiet time before bed
🎵Soothing music or familiar sounds can help with relaxation

At our Dementia Day Clubs, we provide structure, social connection, gentle exercise, and meaningful activities- all within a friendly, supportive environment. This helps build positive routines and can ease some of the challenges of sundowning.

If you'd like to find out more about how we can help, please do get in touch.

Bonfire Night can be overwhelming for people living with dementia. A few simple ideas to help keep things calm and comforting at home:

Close curtains before it gets dark🪟
Put on familiar music or the TV for gentle background sound🎵📺
Keep lighting warm and steady indoors💡
Offer reassurance and stay close if someone feels unsettled🫱🏻‍🫲🏻
Let neighbours know if fireworks may cause distress🏡
Have comforting items ready, such as blankets or favourite objects

Little steps can make a big difference, helping everyone feel safe and relaxed.
