The RSV vaccine helps protect against respiratory syncytial virus (RSV), a common virus that can make babies and older adults seriously ill. It's recommended during pregnancy and for adults aged 75 to 79.

The RSV vaccine helps protect against respiratory syncytial virus (RSV).

RSV is a common cause of coughs and colds. Most people get it several times during their life.

It usually gets better by itself, but in some people (especially babies and older adults) it can cause illnesses such as:

- pneumonia (a lung infection)
- bronchiolitis (a chest infection that affects babies)

These illnesses can cause serious breathing problems. They may need to be treated in hospital and can be life-threatening.

Getting RSV can also make your symptoms worse if you have a lung condition, such as chronic obstructive pulmonary disorder (COPD).

The RSV vaccine helps reduce the risk of serious breathing problems like pneumonia and bronchiolitis.

Contact the surgery to book your vaccination appointment if you are eligible.

Parents and carers encouraged to use Pharmacy First this summer

The NHS Pharmacy First service allows children to access treatment for five common conditions from their local pharmacy, without needing a GP appointment.

Children can receive NHS treatment, including antibiotics where appropriate, for five common conditions including:

impetigo (aged one year and over)
infected insect bites (aged one year and over)
earache (aged one to 17 years)
sore throat (aged five years and over)
sinusitis (aged 12 years and over).
The aim of Pharmacy First is to make it easier for people to get the help they need and free up millions of GP slots.

Parents can simply walk into a participating pharmacy and request a consultation for their child. If further treatment is needed, pharmacy teams will signpost families to the most appropriate local service.

“The scheme enables community pharmacists, who are trained health professionals, to supply prescription-only medicines, where clinically appropriate, to treat five health conditions for children which would previously have required a GP appointment.”

The Pharmacy First scheme is also available for adults and covers the following seven common conditions:

sinusitis (adults and children aged 12 years and over)
sore throat (adults and children aged five years and over)
earache (children and young adults aged one to 17 years)
infected insect bite (adults and children aged one year and over)
impetigo (adults and children aged one year and over)
shingles (adults aged 18 years and over)
uncomplicated urinary tract infection (women aged 16 to 64 years).

☀️☀️☀️☀️☀️☀️☀️

We're expecting high temperatures for the next few days.

❗️ Tips for coping in the hot weather ❗️

🌞If you have to go outside, stay in the shade especially between 11am and 3pm, wear sunscreen, a hat and light clothes, and avoid exercise or activity that makes you hotter.

🌞Cool yourself down. Have cold food and drinks, avoid alcohol, caffeine and hot drinks, and have a cool shower or put cool water on your skin or clothes.

🌞Keep your living space cool. Close windows during the day and open them at night when the temperature outside has gone down.

‼ IMPORTANT INFORMATION ABOUT MOUNJARO ‼

PLEASE DO NOT CONTACT YOUR GP PRACTICE ABOUT THIS TREATMENT

We are aware of recent media coverage about the weight loss treatment Mounjaro.

This medication is being rolled out gradually across the NHS, initially to a small number of Practices. That means not everyone who may benefit will be able to get it at their registered Practice.
Currently, at the Practices who are able to prescribe it, it will only be offered to people with serious health risks linked to their weight and they MUST meet the following criteria, no exceptions:

1) Must have a BMI equal to or over 40

2) Must have 4 CONFIRMED DIAGNOSES out of 5 of the following health related problems
o Type 2 Diabetes
o Hypertension
o Dyslipidaemia
o Cardiovascular Disease
o Obstructive sleep apnoea

3) Patients must also take part in a structured support programme and wraparound care which includes:
lifestyle and behaviour change support / regular clinical reviews, monitoring and medication review / ongoing patient engagement with diet and activity plans

4) People who should NOT be prescribed it
o Anyone under the age of 18
o Are pregnant or breast feeding
o Personal or family history of medullary thyroid carcinoma (MTC)
o Multiple endocrine neoplasia syndrome type 2 (MEN2)
o Hypersensitivity to Tirzepatide or any of its components

Please do not contact your GP practice about this treatment. If you are eligible, the NHS will contact you directly once your registered Practice is able to prescribe it.

We understand that it may feel frustrating or disappointing if you're not eligible for Mounjaro, but please know that other help is available to you in other ways.

📢 Cervical Screening Changes – From 1st July 2025

Big news for cervical screening in England! Starting 1st July 2025, the routine screening schedule is changing. Here’s what you need to know:

✅ If you're aged 25-49 and your test shows no HPV, you’ll now be invited for screening every 5 years instead of every 3 – thanks to a more accurate HPV test.

🔁 If HPV is detected, don’t worry – you’ll be invited more frequently so we can keep an eye on any changes.

💬 These changes are based on expert recommendations from the UK National Screening Committee (UKNSC) to ensure screening is safe and effective.
