Today sees the release of the film "Out of My Mind" onto Disney+, an adaptation of the 2010 book of the same name. It's a coming of age tale about Melody Brooks, a middle schooler with cerebral palsy who uses an AAC device to communicate. The movie has been worked on in collaboration with a group of consultants who themselves have cerebral palsy and also has great representation for a wide range of disabilties.

Here at Pace, staff and children alike can't wait to watch it over the weekend and celebrate the amazing inclusivity on screen!

I am very lucky that I see a lot of children and they all have different likes and dislikes. This young lady loves her Irish dancing, unfortunately she had injured her ankle and was struggling to get back on her tiptoes. She worked so hard on regaining her strength, balance and flexibility and was determined to get back to competing. Beautiful to watch and super impressed! Amazing balance and strength now!

Great to chat through problems with concerned parents and have had a couple of calls in the last few days. I am always happy to share a bit of advice even if it doesn’t end up in an assessment or just an assessment to make sure any concerns are fully covered.

As a parent we all worry about our children and want to give them all the opportunities to explore life whilst doing our best to keep them safe which can sometimes be conflicting. My daughter came off her bike whilst on a BMX track and broke her elbow! 😱 It certainly made we want to wrap her in cotton wool but I know that wouldn’t be my advice for families I work with. She still has a cast so no bike for now but we have been spending a lot of time at the hospital so I can appreciate how busy the lives of the families I work with are most of the time attending and this is short term for us.

It certainly has been a busy end to the school year and start of the holiday. As I am sure like many of you…juggling work and the children, alongside Covid regulations. My kids missed the end of term in self isolation and I’ve been playing catching up with work! Not helped by my 4legged companion…. but lots of fun days (& a birthday) planned as well 🏖 🏄🏻‍♀️

Still getting lots of enquires about independent physio with the NHS catching up with its lost months through the pandemic. Always happy to have a chat on the phone to see whether I can help and meeting lots of lovely new families. Providing families with my Covid safe information and risk assessments prior to visits, carrying out regular lateral tests, wearing PPE 😷 and fully vaccinated 👏

We have been very lucky to get away this half term week and have some much needed time to unwind! Back to work tomorrow but for now I’m still thinking of the blue skies and sea. The kids were with me as well but I now only take pictures of my dogs 🤫

I miss blowing bubbles with kids but I have found I can wave a bubble wand and create bubbles without blowing 😷 !! Bubbles are a great way of getting children engaged, moving and making physio fun! It turns out puppies like them as well!!
