I am a regulated degree level trained Traditional Acupuncturist who has previously worked as a physiotherapist. I use my past Western Medical experience and blend it with Eastern Medical training to help support you on a journey to better health through Acupuncture. You might be surprised to know that the kind of acupuncture I have been trained in is not just for pain relief. For example, I have seen anxiety and allergy sufferers in my clinic this last week or so.

For those of you that know me, I am offering half price spring seasonal top up treatments for half an hour duration rather than the normal 50 mins. £25

Maybe you are wondering about dipping your toe in to try acupuncture? Are you not sure what to expect? I offer a free 15 minute telephone call prior to treatments. I also understand that maybe you might just want to feel more calm and grounded. I offer a kind of energy massage that others have found very beneficial in helping to reduce stress levels and anxiety. This can be one way of introducing yourself to Chinese Medicine and its benefits.

Do contact me and we can discuss what may suit you. Treatments are initially £65 then £50 thereafter. I also offer pre paid packages which work out 10% cheaper.

Did you see news on Central ITV highlighting the lack of regulation, specifically in training, within the acupuncture industry.
As a colleague I am keen to see this regulation in order to help patients find trustworthy health professionals that are trained properly. Please sign this petition.

The time in the year right now, relates to late Summer and the Earth Element. Here in the Northern hemisphere, we often celebrate the last of the summer sun in September! It is a time to pause, harvest and digest our thoughts before Autumn rolls on. Interestingly the Earth Element can be likened to the hub of a wheel where energy can be felt drawing us back and forth. There is a tempering of energy and an urge to remain stable, grounded to function well. Earths’ function is to serve the other elements in the cycle. There is ‘a giving and receiving of energies rather like a mother nourishing her children but also needing to remember to nourish herself.’ I was recently reminded of this by the analogy of putting on your facemask first (when on a plane) before fitting a child’s mask.

In the Earth Element time it is a change of energy from two yang elements (Spring and Summer) to two Yin Elements (Autumn and Winter). In my clinic, I find that this energy change can sometimes be the most difficult for people to adjust to in the year.

As an acupuncturist trained in Five Element acupuncture, imbalances can be recognized by certain signs and symptoms given off by the body. We can diagnose and treat uniquely, nourishing you holistically and helping you on a journey to better health.

If you would like to find out more about how acupuncture can help you.

Please get in contact with me either by messaging Julie on 07718 222727 or julie@jswiftacupuncture.co.uk

Summer , we hope, is around the corner! As acupuncturists we use Eastern Medicine methods to help diagnose health/ illhealth. One diagnostic method draws metaphors from nature and at this time of year our green spaces are putting on a lot of growth and colour. This resembles the Fire Element in its full glory. As unique human beings, each of us have a certain propensity towards one of the five elements, although we have all five elements within us.

The Fire Element is all to do with connectedness and relationships, joy and yang energy. The Chinese graphic for Fire is a flickering flame. This picture helps us to understand some of the quality of Fire and how it reacts.

In health, Fire can show up as a happiness that comes and goes with the surrounding circumstances. It is stable flame that doesn't go out. In ill health it can be seen as a desperate pull at happiness or even a 'lack or joy' like the ashes glowing near the end of a fire.

As acupuncturists we have been trained to pick up symptoms in similar and different ways to Western Medicine. We collect facts that seem unrelated but are in fact part of a bigger picture learned over thousands of years. This information and more, can be used as part of a holistic treatment plan to help an individual feel better.

This week is Mental Health Awareness Week. Up to 1 in 6 of us potentially may suffer with Mental Health disorders. No one is immune and it is good to share when things are feeling tough. They can be chronic as well as acute conditions and can cause a great deal of distress, not only for the individual but also for the carers involved too.

Acupuncture can be done alongside conventional treatments possibly increasing the benefit. Given the low level of side effects it is a good therapeutic option in addition to conventional treatments.
Research has been shown to cause the release of neurotransmitters resulting in changes to homeostatic mechanisms, thus enhancing body and mind health.
