When you cut calories too aggressively, your body starts to shift into survival mode - NOT weight loss mode 😬
⛔️ Cortisol (stress hormone) rises → more fat stored (especially around the middle)
⛔️ Metabolism slows to conserve energy → fewer calories burned at rest
⛔️ Blood sugar becomes unstable → energy dips + more cravings
⛔️ Leptin (satiety hormone) drops & ghrelin (hunger hormone) rises → hunger increases
⛔️ Muscle is broken down for energy → making fat loss harder long term
⛔️ Thyroid output can slow → further reducing metabolic rate
So fat loss stalls (or starts to feel like a constant uphill battle)
And when you start eating more again?
Your body is primed to store (not burn) fat ➡️ so the weight comes back on FAST
What works MUCH better (and is far more sustainable)
✅ Eating enough to support your metabolism and keep your body out of survival mode
✅ Building meals that stabilise blood sugar (protein, fats, fibre) and nourish your hormones
✅ Supporting your nervous system so cortisol isn’t constantly elevated
✅ Prioritising muscle to keep your metabolic rate active
✅ And importantly, addressing any underlying obstacles to weight loss such as low thyroid function, insulin resistance, stress load, poor gut health, sluggish liver, nutrient deficiencies and hormone imbalances - that can ALL effect our ability to lose weight
When you address THESE things your body starts responding again and the scales begin to move in the right direction 👊
