When you cut calories too aggressively, your body starts to shift into survival mode - NOT weight loss mode 😬

⛔️ Cortisol (stress hormone) rises → more fat stored (especially around the middle)
⛔️ Metabolism slows to conserve energy → fewer calories burned at rest
⛔️ Blood sugar becomes unstable → energy dips + more cravings
⛔️ Leptin (satiety hormone) drops & ghrelin (hunger hormone) rises → hunger increases
⛔️ Muscle is broken down for energy → making fat loss harder long term
⛔️ Thyroid output can slow → further reducing metabolic rate

So fat loss stalls (or starts to feel like a constant uphill battle)

And when you start eating more again?

Your body is primed to store (not burn) fat ➡️ so the weight comes back on FAST

What works MUCH better (and is far more sustainable)

✅ Eating enough to support your metabolism and keep your body out of survival mode
✅ Building meals that stabilise blood sugar (protein, fats, fibre) and nourish your hormones
✅ Supporting your nervous system so cortisol isn’t constantly elevated
✅ Prioritising muscle to keep your metabolic rate active
✅ And importantly, addressing any underlying obstacles to weight loss such as low thyroid function, insulin resistance, stress load, poor gut health, sluggish liver, nutrient deficiencies and hormone imbalances - that can ALL effect our ability to lose weight

When you address THESE things your body starts responding again and the scales begin to move in the right direction 👊

‘It’s just the menopause’

I hear this ALL the time.

And while hormonal changes in midlife are absolutely real - they are often treated as the only explanation.

Which means A LOT gets missed.

Because symptoms like fatigue, brain fog, weight gain, low mood, poor sleep are rarely caused by one thing in isolation.

More often, it’s a combination of blood sugar imbalances, stress, gut issues, nutrient status - which
all influence how your body (and hormones) function.

So when everything is blamed on menopause…

👉 women get stuck
👉 things don’t improve (even with HRT)
👉 and they start to feel that maybe this is just the way it’s supposed to be

When in reality - no one has looked at the full picture.

And when you DO look deeper?

There is ALWAYS something else going on.

And when you actually address the real root cause.

That’s when things can really change 💫

If you’ve been told it’s ‘just menopause’ but you suspect something else might me going on - you’re very welcome to book in for a chat so we can get to the bottom of it ❤️

Your GP checked your thyroid and said it’s ‘fine’ but you still feel exhausted, cold, foggy? Here’s why 👉

Most GPs only check TSH. If it’s in (their very broad) range, they say you’re fine.

But TSH is just ONE marker. They’re not checking Free T3 (the active hormone your cells actually use), Reverse T3 (which can block function), or antibodies (autoimmune markers).

You can have ‘normal’ TSH but low T3, high reverse T3, or Hashimoto’s - and your GP would never know.

This is why comprehensive testing matters.

If you’re experiencing thyroid symptoms but have been told you’re ‘fine’ deserve proper investigation.

I’ll never forget when she cried in that consultation ❤️‍🩹

Not because it was bad news - but because, for the first time in nearly a year - what she was feeling actually made sense.

Through tears, she said:

“Thank you… I thought I was going mad”

That moment has stayed with me.

And it’s such a big part of why I do this work.

Because so many women are told everything is ‘fine’
when it doesn’t feel fine at all…

And slowly, they start to doubt themselves instead.

When often, it’s simply that no one has properly looked at WHY they feel the way they do.

If Tina’s story resonates, you’re very welcome to book in for a chat - no pressure.

Because your gut affects EVERYTHING:

🧠 Brain function - 90% of serotonin is made in your gut (hello, mood and anxiety)

⚡ Energy production - gut absorbs nutrients needed for energy

🛡️ Immune system - 70% of your immune system lives in your gut

🦴 Hormone balance - gut processes and eliminates hormones

😴 Sleep quality - gut health affects melatonin production

When your gut is struggling:

- You don’t absorb nutrients properly (even from healthy food)
- Inflammation increases
- Hormones get out of balance
- Energy crashes
- Brain fog increases

This is why I always investigate gut health.

Your fatigue, anxiety, brain fog, hormone issues? They might all trace back to your gut.

Why I became a nutritionist who specialises in midlife women 👉

At 40, I was drowning. Exhausted, foggy, flat.

Everything felt like effort and I just couldn’t reach the surface no matter what I did.

My GP said ‘everything’s normal’ and offered antidepressants.

But I KNEW something wasn’t right.

So I retrained as a nutritionist and found what my GP hadn’t - thyroid issues, adrenal fatigue, gut problems, nutrient deficiencies.

Got my answers. Got my life back.

Then I discovered I wasn’t alone.

SO many midlife women with the exact same story. Dismissed. Told ‘everything’s fine’, ‘it’s just your age’. Offered sticking plasters instead of real answers.

That’s why I do this work.

Because midlife women deserve real answers, not dismissal.

If you’re reading this thinking ‘that’s me’ - I promise you’re not going mad.

And this does NOT have to be your new normal.

Despite what we’re told, feeling tired all the time is not ‘normal’ and it’s not a natural consequence of getting older 🙄

When you look a bit deeper, there’s ALWAYS a reason.

– blood sugar instability
– hormonal imbalances
- nervous system dysregulation
– nutrient gaps
– gut issues

All of these affect how your body produces and uses energy.

When you start to understand what’s driving it.
Things can actually start to change.

So you don’t have to ‘get through’ the day.
You can actually have the energy to enjoy it.

Experiencing low energy levels? 🤔

Here are some of the most common reasons I see in clinic:

1. Blood sugar crashes
2. Hormone imbalances (thyroid, adrenals, oestrogen)
3. Nutrient deficiencies (iron, B12, vitamin D, protein)
4. Poor digestion or gut health
5. Hidden food sensitivities
6. Dehydration (this one’s surprisingly common)
7. Chronic inflammation
8. Constant low-level stress (your nervous system never truly switches off)
9. Soul fatigue (the tiredness that comes from disconnection or not enough joy in your life)
10. Not enough quality sleep!

For years I thought “being healthy” meant eating the right things and exercising enough 😅

And if it wasn’t working, I’d just try harder.
Be stricter. More disciplined.

But midlife has taught me something different.

You can eat well and still feel exhausted.
You can exercise and still struggle with weight.
You can take ALL the supplements and still feel flat & anxious.

Because health in midlife is about SO much more than this.

It’s about regulation & nervous system safety.
It’s about hormones, digestion and detoxification.
It’s about sleep, rest, joy and connection.

That’s why my Reset programme isn’t just a diet plan.

If you’re ready to feel energised, clearer and back in control of your health again 💫 Comment or DM RESET and I’ll send you the details

I’m a recovering doom scroller...📲

I’ve used my phone to numb, to distract, to avoid uncomfortable feelings.

Boredom, frustration, anxiety, sadness, loneliness

Then, recently, I heard the wonderful Kirsty Gallagher say:

“There is nothing happening on your phone more important than what’s happening inside you.”

Ooof. That landed!

We spend so little time going inward and noticing with what we actually feel, asking what we really need, sitting with the discomfort instead of scrolling past it.

So these days I’m trying to go inside before I go online. Some days I manage it. Some days I don’t.

Now to work on my daughters 😉
