Our first meeting for 2026 will be Tuesday 3rd Feb, 10am at Manor Mission Church.

For those that attended in December you may remember Mike mentioning the issue with parking at Manor Mission that we currently enjoy courtesy of Lidl but is planned to disappear over the coming months. These changes to parking are as a result of the opening of the new Lidl store within Laindon town centre and the proposed redevelopment of the existing store site.

It would therefore seem prudent to use our first coffee morning to discuss these proposals. As well as having a cuppa and a catch up as it has been a while since we last got together.

LIDL SUPERMARKET MOVE TO NEW PREMISES COULD AFFECT OUR USE OF THE MANOR MISSION CHURCH HALL FOR OUR MEETINGS.

Please see message below from Basildon Diabetes Chair, Mike Sykes.

"Urgent threat to the activities in Manor Mission posed by the redevelopment of Laindon.

At a recent meeting with the representative from Sanctuary who is leading the redevelopment of the Laindon High Road, we were informed of a significant development that is a serious threat to the church and community groups use of the premises.

The ‘new Lidl’ store is due to open in February 2026. At that point, the ‘current Lidl’ store site in Manor Road will be demolished, and the car parking removed. They may leave the bays directly opposite the church for ‘as long as possible’, but as this is part of the land owned by Lidl, we have no guarantee of this.

Whilst there will be parking possible in the ‘new Lidl’ site, this will be time limited to 90 minutes between 6am and 8pm when most of the activities run in the church, and will be monitored by cameras. Given most activities last much longer than this, it will affect your group’s ability to run.

There was an agreement made with the previous developers (Swan), which Sanctuary have said they would honour, to provide us with some dedicated parking in Manor Road. However this may not happen for 2-3 years when the Manor Road portion of the development happens."

If you would like to have your say please contact your local councillor and the link below should allow you to visit the relevant site.

"Further to some requests about who to contact and how to do that we have drafted a template for you to adapt should you wish to contact your councillors about the parking issues we mentioned on Tuesday.

To find out who your representatives are, if you visit https://www.writetothem.com/ and put your post code in, it will bring up the relevant people and allow you to make contact directly through this website"

WriteToThem is a website which provides an easy way to contact MPs, councillors and other elected representatives.
