RPT is based at The Rainbow Hub Lancaster where they offer numerous therapeutic services including play therapy, creative arts therapy and Filial Therapy.

Emily is an accredited play therapist having 1000 clinical hours of work so far.

⭐ Glitter ⭐

Oh how we love a bit of glitter in my playroom!! Glitter is often something grown ups are afraid of, as understandably, it can and frequently, does, go everywhere!!! However, in the playroom there is free range and this week kids have been living for the glitter! It can be used to create pictures, make potions, messy play, and so much more!

A lot of children want to be able to use glitter but struggle with the sensory aspect of it, as it can get everywhere and feel strange on your hands! There's power in this though and children can overcome this over the weeks, which when supported by a therapist is such a magical experience!

⭐ First week of November ⭐

Well, another week has been and gone and it was a week of two halves. The first half was far too busy with what felt like, a million meetings and sessions, but then a complete contrast to that, a weekend away with my mum to one of our favourite places, Whitby.

I like to think that most of the time I'm better at balancing out my weeks now and try to keep strict boundaries to stop myself from burning out by Tuesday evening!! However this week, for some reason, I decided to jam pack it with everything I could, meaning I was exhausted by Tuesday evening! 🤦🏻‍♀️ However, a little bit more painting was achieved, productive meetings were had a brilliant sessions were started back after half term.

I then travelled across to whitby in the most beautiful, warm weather, walked across the beach, ate fish and chips, saw old friends and slept! So I've finished the week with my little family back at our local beach and ready and restored for a new week!

⭐ Half Term Week ⭐

Well this week went incredibly fast! Not much time to relax but achieved so much in the new hub!

A wicked/Halloween workshop, so much painting, snuggles with my biggest boy, dog walks with a coffee, uni friends with kids and our biggest peer supervision this year and first event in the new space!!

Flipping exhausted and ready for a break...or the start of a new term...!

⭐ Another week ⭐

How has it been another week already? I'm quite enjoying doing these round ups as it's making me stop and appreciate little moments throughout each day. It feels as though there aren't enough hours in the day at the moment so finding the glimmers has been great.

Another week of painting, dog walks, sessions and surviving the last week of term, but we've made it! I finally feel as though the new hub is taking shape, there's more walls painted, furniture is going in and it's beginning to feel like ours! I've tried to make dog walks, walks for myself as well this week and had early morning trips to the beach which has been a lovely way to start the day! Sessions have been busy this week despite not being full due to some already on half term. Whenever there's a break, it seems as though children really need their time and space during sessions and I'm here for it! They're building themselves up for a week off and trusting their own process.

Next week there's no sessions, but still a workshop and some final touches to the new hub, but filled with family time and sorting my own new house out! 😅 It's nearly the end of 2025 and this year has been my f*** it year (sorry!!!), so I'm quite excited for 2026 to start and to take it all in and hopefully, slow down!! 🤣

⭐ The week I turned 34! ⭐

Not my usual week, but an amazing one! It was my birthday and we got 2 nights away!! And wow was it needed! This past year has whizzed by at 100 miles an hour and it's been incredible, but also exhausting! It felt so special to take some time away and to slow down!

As well as being away, it's been painting, food, playing and walks! Its not the last week before our half term, so it will involve lots of tired children (my own!), preparing my work children for a little break, more painting and the odd parent meeting!

⭐ My Week ⭐

I'm feeling a bit uninspired with what to post at the moment so I thought I'd do a little week in the life! A mixture of work and home. A great mix of socialising, quiet times at home and walks!

HELLO!!! I'm back after a gorgeous summer with family and friends!! I've spent the last month covered in my own children, packing up our house (🤦🏻‍♀️) and at the beach! It's been great and was very much needed to just 'be' with my family and we've made some great memories together. We've not done all that much, apart from a camping trip, but we've spent time together being outside, drawing, hours of hammer bead creations(!) and we've started packing up our house to move, hopefully in the next few weeks!

I'm so excited to be back at work and get going again, but it might take me a while to get used to it as I've loved having time off!! 😅 The next few months there's a lot of changes happening personally but also 'business' wise which is daunting but incredibly exciting! It's also been a year since I opened The Rainbow Hub this month which is crazy!!!

Anyway, hello and I can't wait to get back into the swing of sharing my play therapy life again! 🧡🌈

⭐ Reflections ⭐

I'm moving house soon and so the clearout has begun, but so has the finding little treasures I'd forgotten about! Here is the first design I made for my logo way back during the first lockdown of the pandemic in 2020! I remember so vividly designing this in what was our study, before sending it over to the amazing Ben, who brought it to life!

I've found all my old training booklets and sheets which I can't bring myself to get rid of as I know as the years go on, I'll love looking back at where it all began! Is anyone else like this? I have been fairly brutal with getting rid of a lot, but there's just some things I can't quite part with!

⭐ Happy Summer Holidays! ⭐

A lot of children are finishing for their summer holidays today/early next week and I wanted to wish you a lovely, fun and creative time off school!

Embrace the mundane things and get the kids involved in everyday tasks like washing up, helping prepare the dinner or hoovering! We don't have to fill every minute with exciting activities for our children, but spending time connecting with our children will make these holidays easier! It's a long time to be out of routine for everyone, and it will take a few days to find your new family rhythm, and that's ok!

Whatever you're up to, I hope you have a lovely time, stay connected with each other through short bursts of child led play, and have fun!!
