Happy St George’s Day from all of us at Lancaster and Morecambe Crematorium.

While the legend tells of St George bravely facing a dragon, we like to think today is also about the quieter kind of courage — the everyday strength, kindness, and resilience we see in the families we support.

We may not have any dragons to contend with here (just the occasional Lancashire weather!), but we do see first-hand how powerful community and togetherness can be.

As the red and white flags are flying, we’re thinking of all those being remembered today, and the lasting impact they’ve had on the people who love them.

Wishing everyone a peaceful St George’s Day 🌹

🌷Announcing our Spring Memorial Open Day🌷

We shall be opening our doors and grounds on Saturday 16th May for anyone who wants to discover more about our processes, memorial gardens, and memorial options. Our chapel will also be open for quiet reflection.

Celebrating Spring and all the beauty it brings, we wanted to be present for visitors to chat to, and to be open for anyone who wishes to discuss the wide range of memorial options we offer, from Lovelocks🔒 to Private Gardens🌹

Our manager and resident naturalist, Jon, will also be on hand to walk the grounds with, pointing out the Spring flora and fauna we are proud to be surrounded by across our fourteen acre memorial gardens and grounds 🦋

🌍 Earth Day – 22 April

Today we join communities around the world in recognising Earth Day, a moment to reflect on the importance of caring for our environment and the natural spaces around us.

At Lancaster & Morecambe Crematorium, we are privileged to care for gardens that provide peace, reflection, and connection with nature throughout the year. We remain committed to maintaining these spaces with respect for the environment, supporting biodiversity, and ensuring the grounds remain a place of natural beauty for visitors.

🌿 Our ongoing work includes caring for green spaces, seasonal planting, and thoughtful grounds maintenance that supports both wildlife and a peaceful atmosphere for remembrance.

On Earth Day, we are reminded of the comfort that nature brings in times of reflection and remembrance.

Thank you to all who visit and help keep these spaces calm, respectful, and cared for.

✨ New Feature ✨

Starting this week, we’re introducing a new feature on our page where we’ll be shining a light on our dedicated Funeral Directors.

At Lancaster & Morecambe Crematorium, we’re fortunate to work closely with people who truly care about the families they serve — and we’re starting with J Mason & Son Funeral Directors, who are a wonderful example of that. 💙

A family business since 1914, J Mason & Son have been supporting Lancaster families for five generations. That history isn’t just something to be proud of — it’s something you can feel in the way they look after people, with kindness, patience, and genuine understanding.

Today, that legacy continues through Jane Nicholson, carrying forward the same compassionate approach that has defined the business for over a century. Their care is personal, thoughtful, and always centred on the family — helping to create services that truly reflect the life of the person being remembered.

We also love seeing new team members grow into their roles, and it’s a big warm welcome to Danni, the newest Funeral Director at J Mason & Son. 💫

And we have to say — we always love it when Jane pops into the office too. Her bubbly personality never fails to brighten our day and bring a smile to the team. 💙

Whether it’s guiding someone through the first steps of arranging a funeral, or simply being there to listen, the whole team brings warmth and reassurance at a time when it matters most.

We’re proud to work alongside them and to see, every day, the difference they make in our community.

💬 If you’ve been supported by J Mason & Son, we know how much that care can mean — feel free to share your experiences below.

✨🌿EXTENDED GARDEN PRIZE DRAW!🌿✨

We have a confession - we had initially set last Friday (17th) as our prize draw date to win the gardening services of Seamus and Sid, two of our award-winning groundskeepers in honour of St John's Hospice's 40th Anniversary 🎉

However...Shay and Sid were called upon by our friends at Heysham North West in Bloom Community Group to help re-plant some storm-damaged yuccas in the middle of the village. Because of the excitement of this, we never ended up running our prize draw. Whilst we're very sorry for this oversight, we've taken the opportunity to extend the prize draw which will now take place on the 1st May!

All details are listed below ⬇

Thank you to all those who have bought tickets so far, and we look forward to making the draw on the 1st May and announcing the winner here on our page. Shay and Sid are looking forward to helping out in the winner's chosen garden 🌾

Thanks as ever for your support, and keep your eye on our page for our Spring Open Day, which we'll be announcing very soon (not to be confused with our grand summer open day later this year) ☀

"Today Heysham Village needed ‘a little help from our friends ‘at Lancaster & Morecambe Crematorium

After high winds the Yuccas we have in the centre of the village really suffered after one storm when we had gales coming straight across and hitting them at over 60 miles an hour.
The yucca’s which had a growth spurt this year where up rooted.
We realised we needed to get some help and who do you call? The award winners from North West in Bloom , the lads from the crem.
After a chat with Jon they turned up trumps.
Seamus and Sid came down and sorted everything out for us
Next week, Jon‘s coming down to stake them
So ‘ We got by with a little help from our friends’
Thank you ..what great community North West in Bloom is."
Angela Sykes.

Thanks for reaching out, and thanks for your lovely words, Angela. Shay and Sid jumped at the chance to help our friends from North West in Bloom, and they enjoyed it, too.

I look forward to popping down in the week, staking the yuccas in, taking in beautiful Heysham village, and catching up with you.
Jon

We have been, and continue to be, supporting funeral directors and families from the Barrow-in-Furness area following the temporary closure of Thorncliffe Crematorium.

Whilst services have continued to take place in the area, some families have chosen to send their loved ones here for us to carry out the cremation itself, following their service.

Because of this, and the distance involved, it occurred to us that those families may not be familiar with Lancaster and Morecambe Crematorium or our chapel.

That being the case, we wanted to post some photos of our chapel and grounds so families know where their loved ones are coming.

We also want to reassure that each person brought into our care, whether family are present or not, pass through our chapel, are placed on our catafelque, and are treated with dignity and respect. We bow for them, have a seasonal photo on our screen, and bring them through to our crematory the same way as anyone else.

Whether or not you have a service in our chapel, it is here for you and our communities, and our strict processes for cremating are followed for every person entrusted to us.

If your loved one has come to us, or will be, please don’t hesitate to contact us if you have any questions or want some reassurance. Even if it's just to hear the voice of someone from our team 💛

Furthermore, our gates and memorial gardens are always open. Should you wish to visit now or in the future, to wander, reflect and understand the space your loved one travelled through, you're always more than welcome.

Please also feel free to scroll our page to meet our team and the community that we are proud to be a part of.

Sincerest regards,

Jon and the team,
Lancaster and Morecambe Crematorium

When the sun is shining and the tulips are out, it takes me back to fond, Spring family memories in my garden 🌷

What, or who, do tulips remind you of?

Our memorial gardens have something in all seasons to trigger fond memories, from these tulips and the now opening bluebells, to blossom trees, snowdrops, rhododendrons, summer bedding and much more 🌸 🏵 🌼

This week, during an appointment, I shared a meaningful conversation with a family member about something we can all too easily forget — not taking this life for granted.

Even on the most ordinary days, there is always something good to hold onto. A kind word, a moment of peace, a memory that makes us smile. Taking a moment each evening to reflect on one positive thing can gently remind us of the beauty in our lives.

Imagine if you could only read your favourite book one last time, knowing you could never turn back a page… how carefully, how thoughtfully would you read it?

That is life.

So let’s cherish each day, embrace the moments as they come, and find joy in the little things — because every page matters, and every day is a gift 💛

If you’re looking for something a little different to do, why not check out Gregory at Lancaster Walks and Tours? It looks like a fantastic way to spend a few hours exploring local history in a unique and engaging way.

I’m especially tempted to try his next “Horrible Happenings” evening tour around Lancaster—it sounds both fascinating and a little bit spooky!

Also, a big congratulations to Gregory on celebrating Twenty Two Years as a Blue Badge Tourist Guide 🌹💙—a truly marvellous achievement and a testament to his passion and dedication.

Well worth supporting local and giving it a try!
