We have been, and continue to be, supporting funeral directors and families from the Barrow-in-Furness area following the temporary closure of Thorncliffe Crematorium.
Whilst services have continued to take place in the area, some families have chosen to send their loved ones here for us to carry out the cremation itself, following their service.
Because of this, and the distance involved, it occurred to us that those families may not be familiar with Lancaster and Morecambe Crematorium or our chapel.
That being the case, we wanted to post some photos of our chapel and grounds so families know where their loved ones are coming.
We also want to reassure that each person brought into our care, whether family are present or not, pass through our chapel, are placed on our catafelque, and are treated with dignity and respect. We bow for them, have a seasonal photo on our screen, and bring them through to our crematory the same way as anyone else.
Whether or not you have a service in our chapel, it is here for you and our communities, and our strict processes for cremating are followed for every person entrusted to us.
If your loved one has come to us, or will be, please don’t hesitate to contact us if you have any questions or want some reassurance. Even if it's just to hear the voice of someone from our team 💛
Furthermore, our gates and memorial gardens are always open. Should you wish to visit now or in the future, to wander, reflect and understand the space your loved one travelled through, you're always more than welcome.
Please also feel free to scroll our page to meet our team and the community that we are proud to be a part of.
Sincerest regards,
Jon and the team,
Lancaster and Morecambe Crematorium
