Our scatter woodland will soon be alive with the colour and sway of beautiful daffodils before it transforms in late Spring to a bluebell wood.

The transformation reminds us of how life changes and can look bleak at times, but memories and feelings soon appear and bloom. It reminds us too that those who have moved on are never gone, never forgotten. They are always with us in our memories and hearts.

My father, Phil, was scattered in a bluebell wood, he loved them so, and the coming of this season and the flowers themselves always reminds me of him. I hope these pretty pictures trigger similar, fond memories for you 💛

I had a lovely meeting today with Lindsay and her amazing Bereavement Office team at Royal Lancaster Infirmary. It was heart-warming to hear about the comfort and support they offer to families in their time of need. Their care and compassion was evident and I had to share that fact with you all.

Lindsay and her team will be visiting us here at Lancaster & Morecambe Crematorium in the coming weeks to see and be able to reassure families on the processes here should anyone they care for want to know more.

A huge thank you to all that they do across our community. I'm sure you'll all agree.

💥 Did you know? 💥

Lancaster & Morecambe Crematorium is located on Powder House Lane, a name that reflects the history of the land the crematorium sits on.

During the 18th and 19th centuries, this area was used for the safe storage of gunpowder brought into Lancaster by ship. To keep dangerous materials away from the busy town and port, ammunition was unloaded at places such as Sunderland Point and transported by horse and cart to powder houses positioned well outside the town centre. In some cases, copper-shod horses were used to reduce the risk of sparks.

Towards the back of the crematorium grounds, there is a feature often referred to as a bomb hole. While it was once thought this dated back to the Second World War, there is no clear record of bombing at this specific location. However, the area has strong links to wartime activity, including a major munitions factory explosion in October 1917, making this feature an intriguing reminder of the land’s past.

Although the powder houses are no longer standing, the history of the site lives on in the grounds of the crematorium and in the name Powder House Lane, quietly linking the peaceful setting we see today with its fascinating past.

🐦Big Garden Birdwatch 2026 is nearly here!🐦

If you want to take part in this event but don't have a garden, or perhaps you already take part in your garden but want to do another count elsewhere, then our grounds are here for you (and our birds).

Our team are constantly hearing and spotting a wide range of bird species across our grounds, from robins and wrens to goldcrests and nuthatches; jays and wood pigeons to greater spotted woodpeckers and tawny owls! 🦉

For our regular visitors, you'll know we have multiple nest boxes about the grounds, and the birdlife is superb. Take an hour whilst visiting your loved ones to help the RSPB gather citizen science on our precious British birdlife.

How do you take part? See below ⬇️

Pick any one hour period between 23–25 January, choose a spot within our grounds and watch the birds that land, record the highest number of each species at one time, and submit your results.

It’s free, fun, and everyone can take part!

🤍 Because Love Never Leaves 🤍

Some memories don’t belong in a box.
They belong on the wall, in the light, in the moments you pass by every day.

The Tribute Frame is a modern, heartfelt way to keep your loved one close — without a traditional urn on display. Behind a beautiful oak-finish frame, their ashes are held safely and discreetly, while their photograph tells the story of a life deeply loved.

What remains in sight is not loss, but love.
Not ashes, but presence.

What you see is their smile, their story, their life
A quiet, comforting presence.
A modern way to honour your loved one, always by your side.

Winter may be here, but Spring is very near 🌼

It's a busy time outdoors as our groundskeepers are in full swing, preparing for the seaonal transformation of our memorial gardens. Mulching to protect and feed soil that will be planted up for summer. Trimming hedges before the birds start to nest and lay eggs. Generally tidying and caring for memorials and grounds alike. All before the mowing season returns.

If you see them on their rounds, don't hesitate to say hello. They're a friendly, dedicated team and we appreciate them for all that they do, come rain or shine 🌧 ☀️

Keep your eyes peeled for emerging bulbs such as crocus and daffodils, they're soon to follow the snowdrops that are already in bloom.

Our job begins the moment your funeral director calls us to book a service. From there, Kim, our amazing office administrator takes over behind the scenes to make sure everything runs smoothly.

Kim works closely with funeral directors to ensure all paperwork is received on time, completed correctly, and accurately entered into our system. She then passes everything to our Medical Referee, who carefully checks and signs off the paperwork so the service can go ahead.

On top of this, Kim prepares all daily paperwork, including service lists, cremation certificates, and authorities to cremate. She also looks after accounts, ordering, and quite honestly keeps the office running day to day — she is truly our go-to person.

Before becoming a mum to her precious little boy, Kim was also our Memorial Consultant, bringing the same care and dedication to families during that time as well.

This year marks 10 years of Kim working at the crematorium, and we couldn’t do what we do without her knowledge, commitment, and calm presence. 💙

On her days off, Kim enjoys walking and getting lost in a good book — a well-earned break for someone who gives so much to her role.

Thank you, Kim, for everything you do

✨️✨️ PLEASE NOTE ✨️✨️

This coming Monday 12th January our groundskeepers will be preparing our grounds for Spring by removing all Christmas related decorations and wreaths 🎄

Should you wish to recover anything Christmas related, please do so this weekend as our team will be starting at 8am.

There are no plans to remove anything but Christmas related items, and flowers that are past their best (as we do each Monday morning) to keep our gardens looking fresh for everyone.

Thank you for making our memorial gardens beautifully festive. Here's to Spring and the flowers that are already starting to push up and bloom! 🌼 🌸
