UHMBT R & D have now recruited over five hundred participants to the Perioperative Quality Improvement Programme study (PQIP) ๐๐ฅผ๐ฅ
This study is looking at the perioperative care of patients undergoing major non-cardiac surgery, measuring complication rates, failure to rescue and patient-reported outcomes. It hopes to improve patient outcomes across the UK, reducing variation in processes of care and supporting implementation of best practice.
Research Nurse Stephanie has worked on the study since the beginning of 2025. She has enjoyed various aspects, especially โinteracting with patients and following their journey through the preoperative to postoperative period.โ
Her favourite part of the work is โdelivering research with direct involvement from patients to ultimately enhance patient outcomes after surgery.โ
She adds that hitting a milestone like this is excellent news for the Trust:
โFrom the data collected we will be able to see how we are performing regionally, which hopefully will lead to established best practices and improved outcomes for our patients.โ
PQIP has also provided valuable experience to Research Nurse Nadine, who is relatively new to research:
โThe PQIP study has been really good for me to gain experience of the basics of research. Thanks to this study, I have increased by knowledge and my confidence in my ability to perform my duties.โ
