Only recently i had a conversation with a client about initally coming to sessions in the hope i would be able to offer answers or solutions. At the end of the same session he had talked through and pieced together parts of what was going on for him. I love watching that process at play in the room, being alongside your clients while they are exploring and making connections for themselves, and the best thing is, he once thought that i would have all the answers!!

A child's natural language is Play, it is a symbolic representation of self-expression and can reveal many things, (a) what the child has experienced, (b) reactions to what was experienced, (c) feelings about what was experienced, (d) what the child wishes, wants, or needs and (e) the child's perception of self (Landreth, 2012).
✨️We can learn so much about a young person by being present, truly listening and often, by being part of their play, whatever that may be.
✨️When you get a minute, think of the last time you played, a game, an instrument, a joke. How did you feel? What did that evoke within you?

Interestingly, a recent study by van Alebeek et al.(2026) found that the most effective part of CBT was actually the person-centred meaning-making. Who would have guessed🤭
The research was conducted with CBT outpatient clients in Germany, and found that they had experienced the most positive outcomes when they encountered person-centred interventions within their therapy, despite their therapists theoretical orientation. Ultimately, this doesnt show that person-centred therapy is any more or less effective than CBT, but it helps solidify the fact that our person-centred practices of empathy and understanding are fundamental components in any effective work taking place. ✨️This is huge much needed change✨️
A recent case review found that almost 30% of r**e cases included requests for counselling records. This change means that only in exceptional cases can that information be requested. The impact of this for survivors is knowing that their therapy space remains safe, and that their notes will remain confidential rather than being routinely requested as part of investigations.
