Attached below is a short film made by the talented Suraya Raja. 'Don't think of a pink elephant' is the inspiring story of a teenage girl fighting against compulsive thoughts and urges. Layla is terrified by her potential to do harm, until challenged to face her darkest fears.

Suraya's film has been showcased at over 100 international festivals, including 6 BAFTA and 4 Oscar accredited festivals, as well as receiving 15 awards for Best Animation/ Best Director.

Hey guys, hope everyone's well and keeping safe.

A group of researchers from across the country are interested in understanding the role of the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic on the mental well-being of medical students and interim Foundation Year 1 doctors.

To get involved it's a 15-minute voluntary survey, which asks about emotional well-being and the support that you have received. All answers will remain anonymous and confidential, and your IP address wont be recorded. If you wish to partake in a follow-up survey in August, please provide your email address when requested by the survey. This email address will not be linked to your answers. More information is available on the link below:

Good afternoon,

We are aware that the current situation may be having an impact on your mental wellbeing, so we wanted to reach out to students and offer some tips! It is important to keep tabs on your mental health and remember that you are entitled to support at ANY time. You may find this useful:

• Your pace of work will likely change whilst at home. It can be a struggle to motivate yourself and you may have other priorities. If you have not completed as much as you wanted, do not place blame on yourself. It is healthy to have time to yourself if you feel drained, on some days, little achievements will be more than enough. On the contrary, you may find yourself achieving lots! If this is the case, keep taking regular breaks as you would at university. Avoid work burnout by doing a little at a time.

• Evidence shows that structure and routine support mental wellbeing. It may be beneficial to plan your routine for the week ahead, or set an achievement of your choice for each day.

• Stay informed with the ongoing situation, but do not overconsume negative information.

• Prepare for a good sleep each night e.g. minimising caffeine/ alcohol consumption and TV bingeing late at night.

• Understand that what you are feeling is okay. Your mental health struggles are a normal response to a difficult situation and it is likely that many of us will begin to feel more anxious and stressed. Try to be mindful of what you are doing and how you are looking after yourself.

• Be kind to yourself and others

Here are lists of podcasts and apps centred on mental wellbeing. There are also resources within the student support section on moodle.

Podcasts: Happy place, Feel better Live more, Bryony Gordon’s Mad world, All in the mind, The Griefcast, Terrible thanks for asking, the anxiety podcast.

Apps: mindfulness, happy feed, headspace, sleep with me, moodfit, drinkaware.

We hope that everyone is staying healthy and do feel free to contact us for support 💙PsychEd x
