In Loving Memory of Olive Craven

It is with profound sadness that the family of Olive Craven announce her peaceful passing at the Royal Lancaster Infirmary on 3rd February 2026, aged 82.

She will also be dearly missed by her sisters Ann and Jean, her best friend of over 50 years, Pat, and her extended family and many friends. Over the years Olive formed many lasting friendships, particularly during her time working as a machinist at K Shoes in Lancaster and at CCM in Garstang, where she was well known and warmly regarded.

Her kindness, warmth and quiet strength will be fondly remembered by all who had the pleasure of knowing her.

In Loving Memory of Daryl Butcher
1969 – 2025

It is with great sadness that the family of Daryl Butcher wish to share the news with the local community that Daryl passed away suddenly and unexpectedly on 23rd December 2025.

Daryl was a much-loved husband, father, son, brother and friend. He leaves behind his devoted wife, Lindsey and his four cherished children, Melissa, Harley, Kyle and James, who were the centre of his world. He will be deeply missed by his mum, Marilyn and his dad, Richard, as well as his sister, Cheryl. Daryl’s passing is also mourned by the many friends he made throughout his life, both in Lancaster and in his hometown of Brackley, Northampton, where he was born and raised.

After growing up in Brackley, Daryl moved to Lancaster in his early twenties. He began his working life locally at Dave Hudspeth’s Carpets before going on to establish his own business, The Carpet Man. Known and trusted by many in the community, the business was founded over 35 years ago and steadily grew into a well-established and respected local enterprise. Daryl took great pride in his work, building lasting relationships with customers and creating a business rooted firmly in the community.

Daryl met Lindsey in Lancaster and together they began their family in 1999. They married in August 2003, building a life together filled with love, laughter and shared memories. As their family grew, so too did their involvement in the business, with Lindsey and the children becoming part of what developed into a true family-run enterprise, built on shared effort, commitment and pride in Daryl’s work. The business he built stands as a lasting legacy to his hard work, values and dedication to the local community.

Outside of work, Daryl had many interests and passions. He loved horse racing and enjoyed regular trips to Cheltenham, as well as greyhound racing, darts, and football. He was a proud supporter of Coastal Amateur Boxing Club in Morecambe and was also Slyne Wolves Football Club’s biggest fan. With his own son playing for the team, Daryl could often be found on the sidelines, cheering on all the children, offering positive encouragement, support and kindness to all players. Daryl also generously supporting the club through team sponsorship.

In quieter moments, Daryl enjoyed unwinding with a Chinese meal from his favourite restaurants, the Fortune Star in Lancaster or the Honey Tree in Morecambe. He was also a devoted dog lover and adored his three dachshunds, Bella, Bertie, and Ruby, with Ruby holding a particularly special place in his heart after being rescued through Animal Care.

Daryl’s funeral will take place on
Tuesday 20th January
at Lancaster and Morecambe Crematorium at 1:30pm.

Family flowers only, please. Donations in lieu of flowers may be made in Daryl’s memory to support the work of Animal Care, via the funeral director.

In Loving Memory of Patricia Shaw
1935 – 2025

It is with great sadness that the family of Patricia Shaw share the news of her passing with the Lancaster community. Pat passed away peacefully on 20th December 2025 at Hillcroft Nursing Home in Galgate, aged 90.

A much-loved Mum, Nan, Great-Nan and friend, Pat will be deeply missed by her sons, Gareth and Malcolm and by her daughters-in-law, Beverly and Tracey, whom she loved and cherished as her own daughters. She was a devoted and proud Nan to Lisa, Leanne, Joseph, Eric and Trafford, and a treasured Great-Nan to Ellie, Amelia, Isla, Shanaya, Louis, Teddy and Bobby, each of whom brought her immense joy.

Born and raised in Lancaster, Pat attended Ryelands Primary School and Skerton High School, fondly recalling childhood days and the simple pleasure of a “penny oxo” on the walk home from school.

She later worked as a clerk-typist in the plant inspection department at Williamson’s Works on St George’s Quay. Following her marriage, she dedicated herself wholeheartedly to creating a loving home for her growing family.

Pat enjoyed a long and happy marriage to her beloved husband Bernard, whom she married at Lancaster Priory in 1958. She is now reunited with him after a lifetime of shared love, laughter and memories.

Known for her wicked sense of humour, Pat brought warmth and laughter wherever she went. She had a passion for collecting clothes, an enduring interest in local history and was a proud and active member of the Lancaster Historical Society.

Above all, Pat will be remembered for her kindness, her quick wit and the deep love she had for her family.

Pat’s funeral will take place on

Thursday 15th January at 12:30pm
at Lancaster and Morecambe Crematorium.

Family flowers only, please. Donations in memory of Pat would be gratefully received, via the funeral director, in support of Diabetes UK and Ronald McDonald House.
