World Alzheimer's Month takes place every September and World Alzheimer's Day is on 21 September each year. It's a global opportunity to raise dementia awareness and support people affected by the disease.
We want to spread awareness to the link between hearing loss and dementia. There is a clear link, although it has not yet been fully explained, studies have shown that hearing loss is one of the twelve main factors that leads to the highest risk of developing Alzheimer's, and other dementias. Hearing loss may also be one of the early symptoms of it. It does not mean that someone with hearing loss will go on to develop dementia – just that their risk is higher.
It's really important for your health in general to get your hearing tested, and this includes helping to reduce the risk of dementia. Where hearing loss is present the use of hearing aids may reduce the risk, by slowing cognitive decline.
If you think you are suffering from hearing loss you can book a hearing assessment with us on 0161 989 1288 or book via our website.
