How often should you have your hearing tested?

If you wear hearing aids, it's recommended to have your hearing tested at least once a year. Regular checkups help ensure your devices are properly programmed to your current hearing levels and performing at their best.

If you don't wear hearing aids and haven't noticed any hearing issues, a hearing test every 2 to 3 years is a good routine-especially if you're over 50 or work in noisy environments.

Early detection of hearing changes can make a big difference.

Keeping your hearing health in check is just as important as caring for your vision or teeth. Don't wait until you notice a problem.

If your hearing test is overdue, contact us today to book your appointment on our website or on 0152 458 7623.

Although people see it as gross, ear wax is actually vital to our ear health, it performs several functions. Helping to prevent infections, moisturising the ear canal, and protecting your eardrum from damage caused by dust and other small particles.

For most people it naturally comes out on it's own but if it doesn't it can cause a build-up. Whilst ear wax does have it's purposes, if a build-up is affecting your hearing, causing pain and generally troubling you, we can help. Our fully qualified and accredited audiologists can use microsuction to remove the wax in a safe and comfortable way, giving you instant relief.

Most of the time hearing problems begin gradually, without discomfort or pain. What's more, family members often learn to adapt to someone’s hearing loss, without even realizing they are doing it. Here are some questions to ask yourself to determine whether you have hearing loss:

Do I often ask people to repeat themselves?
Do I have trouble following conversations with more than two people?
Do I have difficulty hearing what is said unless I'm facing the speaker?
Does it sound like other people are mumbling or slurring their words?
Do I struggle to hear in crowded places like restaurants, malls and meeting rooms?
Do I have a hard time hearing women or children?
Do I prefer the TV or radio volume louder than others?
Do I experience ringing or buzzing in my ears?

If you answered yes to several of these questions, chances are you do suffer from hearing loss.

You can book in with us today for a hearing assessment on 0152 458 7623 or visit our website.

Many people feel that they're more confident in conversations when wearing them as they can hear the conversation more clearly.
Recent studies suggest that using hearing aids may reduce the risk of dementia, by slowing cognitive decline.
They can greatly increase your safety, helping you to hear auditory warnings like alarms and car horns.
Hearing aids improve communication overall and this can lead to improved relationships and increased feelings of connection with people around you.

To discuss further how hearing aids could benefit you, book in with us today for a hearing assessment on 0152 458 7623 or visit our website.

Communicating effectively with people with hearing loss is so important, here's a top tip to help. Where possible use visual cues to help clarify the conversation. This includes; sign language, lip-reading, written notes, facial expressions, body language and gestures. Some people may have a preference for one or a few of these, it can be helpful to ask people's preferences.

It's the 5th November and that means it's time for bonfires and firework displays. We hope you have a great time but it's also important to not risk damage to your hearing. Here's some tips to follow to protect your hearing tonight.

1. Use hearing protection.
Ear plugs are of course great for protecting your hearing, but even ear muffs can absorb sound and make a big difference.

2. Keep a safe distance away.
Adults should be at least 20 metres away from fireworks, whilst children should be kept at a minimum distance of 60 metres.

3. Check in with your ears.
If you start to experience ringing or discomfort then move further away or even leave the area entirely.

Did you know this fact?

You may have noticed that these three parts of the body are often grouped together, this is because they are all physically connected as one system, through several canals and tubes. The throat connects your nose to your mouth and links to the esophagus and lungs. The eustachian tube drains fluid from your ears into your throat via the nasopharynx. And the nasal passages also connect to your ears.

Through these routes, a viral or bacterial infection in either your ears, nose, or throat can find its way into the others. For instance, the ENT system can be affected by the same problems, including infections, congestion, swelling, and post-nasal dripping.
