"Nordic curls is a great exercise that will help you not only build up your hamstrings but also according to research reduce the risk for a hamstring strain by 50%.
According to a new study by performing only 8 reps per week you can achieve increases in strength and fascicle length.
We need to keep in mind that the athletes in the study were recreationally active males and therefore the results might be slightly different in professional athletes.
However, the take away is quite clear. By performing only 8 reps per week, we can reduce the hamstring injury risk.
Keep in mind that more is even better and never forget that maintenance is required in order to maintain your gains.

All users of the Sports Centre should wear a face covering in indoor communal areas, unless you are exempt. This includes reception, corridors, changing facilities and toilets.

You can remove your face covering while using indoor sports facilities. This includes the gym, sports halls, squash courts, studios, and the swimming pool. Thank you for your cooperation!

A pain traffic light is a simple but effective way to provide guidance on staying active during injury. Surprisingly lots of patients identify such guidance as an unmet need!

🎉World Physiotherapist Day 🎉

Being a physiotherapist is more than just a job......it’s about helping clients with physical and emotional issues and needs. It’s about hands on treatment, it’s about guidance through exercises, it’s about motivation, it’s about empathy, it’s about looking at the bigger picture, it’s about controlling expectations, it’s about support through lifestyle change, it’s about being professional whilst being approachable, it’s about evidence based practice, but not forgetting that real life clinical experience can be just as, if not more, valuable in aiding a client back to full fitness......being a physiotherapist is more than just a job😊

💙Happy World Physiotherapist Day 💙

A recent study sought to determine whether you could predict return to sport following acute hamstring strain based on tenderness to palpation. Pretty interesting, right?...

"Preserve Muscles While Aging by 📍SHARE-FOLLOW
Aging is commonly associated with functional decline, loss in strength and muscle mass, and falls that result in fractures. It is found that "exercise modulates the morbidities of muscle aging"
Here are some typical MRI scans of a 40 year old triathlete, a 70 year old triathlete, and a 74 year old sedentary man (very low levels of exercises)
As you can see from the infoG, the sedentary man accumulated a lot more adipose tissue during his lifetime and failed to preserve his lean muscles, whereas the 70 year old triathlete still held onto his gains
Never stop exercising!

Great statement- progressive strengthening and loading is the key to a return to activities that you love

A simple message today that I use regularly with patients. Avoiding an activity that you want to do is rarely the answer. Let’s make getting people back to what they love doing a priority!

Great article about an aspect that we all feel. It is a little heavy reading but in essence a feeling of tightness doesn’t necessarily mean a muscle or structure IS tight. It could be a pre warner that a structure has become sensitised and you need to change something to desensitise the area. Stretching, soft tissue work, muscle control work can all help but equally can irritate....so if it feels good and helps DO IT, if it irritates DON’T. If you want more detail have a read or get in contact 👍😊

Why do muscles feel tight? Does that mean they are short? That they can’t relax? And what can you do about it? Here are some...

17/04/2020

One of the most common injuries suffered by athletes and gym-goers is tendinopathy, more commonly known as tendinitis, however this term is technically incorrect as ‘itis’ means inflammation and this is not thought to play a big role in most tendon issues.

Tendinopathy is an overuse injury of the tendon that results in degeneration of the tendon’s collagen (main structural component of the tendon). It is believed to occur due to too much stress being placed on the tendon with inadequate time for it to recover/adapt positively to this stress. Often the pain from tendinopathy is worse in the hours after exercise or the next day rather than during exercise, where they tend to ‘warm up’/become less painful as exercise continues.

Common areas for tendinopathy include the patellar tendon (knee), Achilles tendon, hamstrings, biceps, wrist flexors/extensors (which attach proximally on the inside and outside of the elbow, respectively), and rotator cuff. Ref Timothy Rowland and Running Physio👍😊

Infographic below highlights rehab and graded loading program for above tendinopathy issues. Any queries let me know 😊👍
