Feel the fear!!
Step into a new hobby when you roll out your yoga mat for the first time.
Often people fear attending a yoga class, believing everyone will be bendy, flexible and know what they’re doing. Everyone will look fantastic in those front of a magazine yoga poses.
I can tell you for nothing that everyone does not look and feel this way. Why? Because one pose does not fit every body. We/you are unique, have our own niggles, old injuries and past traumas. (Including me)
What I love about teaching yoga is the way each posture can be progressed, regressed and adapted to suit the individual body. A mixed ability class is the perfect way to observe this. Everyone practicing the same posture and looking unique to them. My aim is for everyone to feel the essence of the posture whilst still being able to breathe.
Yoga should not be exhausting, it should energise, inspire and bring you back to yourself. But don’t expect miracles, the ancient texts that underpin yoga tell us to keep practicing. It’s not all about stretching, you can wear what you want as long as you can move freely. By the way I still get my left and right in a muddle (just saying)
Other than a mat to get you started there is nothing else you need 🙂
If you’re looking for a workout, try something else ! There’s plenty of classes about for that.
So why am I telling you this?
Because there is always a fear that we won’t be good enough, people will look at me, I won’t know what I’m doing, we fear not being bendy enough, well if you don’t try you’ll never become more flexible.
Often people cannot put into words what keeps bringing them back to yoga. Some people in my group have been with me for years, others still quite new, it’s all good.
