Our Story
I don't think the description "alternative health" fits AT but there was no other relevant category available. The truth is there are just things that work and you will be the judge of that! The Alexander Technique isn't alternative in any way. It is completely compatible with orthodox Western medical knowledge and works by teaching you to use your bodymind in the way it is meant to work.
People tend to come to AT when they've tried every other option with no success. I suspect that's because AT isn't a "quick fix". It demands your attention and participation. In this way it isn't a "therapy". It isn't something you have done to you - it's something you learn and make your own. That's why in the biggest back pain trial ever conducted, AT came out better than traditional treatment or massage, still having positive effects a year after participants had a course of 6 lessons.
It is best known for back and neck problems, RSI and chronic physical problems. What is less well known is that is excellent for anxiety, stress and any emotional disorders. That's because it works on the whole system, as body and mind are inseparable.
It isn't hard to learn and it feels great! It helps with performance in sports, acting, public speaking/presentations and music. It even helps with mental clarity, problem solving and insight into behavioural habits. It opens up the possibility for change, even for quite entrenched patterns.
