Our Outdoor Adventure students headed south this week for a change of scene — and to escape the shocking weather! 🌧️

Instead of battling the elements, the group spent the day exploring the Manchester Science and Industry Museum. Students really enjoyed getting hands-on with the interactive installations and discovering the newly updated Railway and Engine Gallery. Most importantly… everyone stayed warm and dry!

A brilliant day of learning, exploring, and making the most of every opportunity.

🍽️ Proud moment alert!

Since September, Saskia from our South Lakes campus has stepped out of her comfort zone and tried 10 different foods - from red pepper, cucumber and carrots, to a full KFC 'fakeaway', and even making pasta this week!

She has enjoyed some surprises along the way, and her confidence, curiosity, and positive attitude have been amazing to watch. Well done Saskia!

Today we have colleagues from across our education division presenting and attending at the National Techability Conference:

Accessible surveys and data collection: multi-disciplinary team working to enable all (Asha Barooah, Vicky Muncaster and Natalie Forsythe)

How can we make data collection and feedback truly accessible for all learners? This presentation will highlight the strategic use of Microsoft Forms and Grid 3 software to create learner voice surveys that are both inclusive and adaptable. Attendees will learn about the integration of Symbol support, Immersive Reader, and Alt Text to enhance accessibility, and how keyboard shortcuts embedded within Grid 3 enable students to complete surveys via their preferred access method.

This session will outline the collaborative efforts of Speech and Language Therapists, Educators, Pathway Coordinators, and Assistive Technologists to demonstrate best practice in accessible design and multi-disciplinary team (MDT) working.

For learners on Beaumont’s Sensory Communication and Independent Communication pathways, the team has developed a unique approach of using PowerPoint as a working document through One Drive to collate an evidence base. This has allowed collection of data against each question in the Learner Survey. This session is aimed at educators, speech and language therapists, assistive technologists, education leaders, and anyone committed to improving participation for all learners.

🌟 Supporting Independence Through Movement 🌟

Students at Beaumont College Lancaster have been exploring and interacting with their environment in meaningful and empowering ways.

Our movement harnesses offer essential support and freedom, helping students safely navigate their surroundings while opening up new opportunities to learn, discover and connect.

Here are just some of the benefits our learners have experienced:

Enhanced Mobility – Greater independence and the joy of movement, without the risk of falls or injury.
Encouraged Exploration – The freedom to reach out, touch and engage with the world around them, sparking curiosity and sensory learning.
Promoted Inclusion – More opportunities to take part in group activities, building social interaction and a strong sense of community.
Boosted Confidence – As students gain new experiences and skills, their confidence and self-esteem continue to grow.

We’re proud to support our learners in developing independence, curiosity and connection every single day.

🎄 South Lakes Students Spread Festive Cheer in Ulverston! 💚

Students from our South Lakes Art Club were recently approached by the Mayoress of Ulverston, Shirley-Anne Wilson, with a very special request - to design and create thirty waterproof decorations for Ulverston’s community Christmas Tree in the Market Square.

After college, our students braved the chilly weather to visit the tree alongside the Mayoress and see their fantastic creations proudly on display. 🌲✨

A huge well done to everyone involved in this amazing festive achievement! 🏆💚

💙 Anti-Bullying Week at Beaumont College South Lakes 💙

The kind and caring students at Beaumont College South Lakes have been discussing their feelings and emotions to increase their empathy for others in Anti-Bullying Week.

Anti-Bullying Week is an annual event that takes place from November 10 to 14. It aims to raise awareness about bullying and encourages children, teachers, and parents to take a stand against it. The theme for 2025 is "Power for Good," which emphasizes the importance of kindness and collective action to combat bullying, both in-person and online. Schools and organizations across the UK participate in various activities to promote kindness and support for those affected by bullying.

🦸🏼 Not all heroes wear capes! 🦸🏼

Super Heroes at Beaumont College South Lakes have started their latest challenge, powered by Marvel, to do the 'Winter Wonderwheels' virtual race around the world.

All the teams taking part across the country will attempt to cover a combined distance of 55,553 kilometres across all sites!

The Superhero Series is the UK’s one & only disability sports series for the Everyday Superhero! Their mission is simple: to create fun sports events where people with disabilities – AKA Everyday Superheroes – call the shots and don’t have to worry about cut-off times or equipment restrictions.

For the next month at Beaumont College South Lakes, digital trackers and recording sheets will log every step the students and staff take, whether that's a casual stroll at lunchtime, sports in a fitness session or a gruelling trek up the fells of the Lake District. All distances feed straight into the online league table, where they will battle it out with other organisations for top spot.

Remembrance across Beaumont College 🌺

Students across Beaumont College have been taking time this week to reflect and create for Remembrance Day.

In Student Union, learners worked together to complete a beautiful Poppy display and wrote their own thoughtful poems to mark the occasion.

At our South Lakes campus, students in the Environment session visited the Poppy Memorial art installation at Walney Youthability Centre. One of our students, Izzy, helped create some of the poppies featured in the display — she’s pictured proudly with her work.

The group are also pictured alongside the memorial, standing together in remembrance.

A special mention goes to Jack, who used his woodworking skills at Chatsworth Crafts to build a stunning wooden elephant for the display — a creative and heartfelt tribute.

🌟 Building Connections and Independence at Beaumont College 🌟

This week, students have been supported to engage in meaningful interactions with their peers, promoting both social development and emotional wellbeing.

During sessions, they showed fantastic independence by making informed choices about therapy equipment to support their own relaxation and self-regulation.

Peer-to-peer interaction has been a key focus - with students sharing their favourite music, exchanging resources, and engaging in positive face-to-face communication.

These collaborative experiences have helped strengthen friendships, build confidence, and create a wonderful sense of community within the group.
