We also offer places to learn in Carlisle and Blackpool, extending Beaumont's friendly and supportive environment to enable students to achieve their full potential nearer to home. Our multidisciplinary approach to learning makes a difference to the lives of our students. We aim to enable young adults to take responsibility for their own lives, in whichever form this takes. We encourage students to participate in exciting activities they've always wanted to try, realising their dreams in the safest way possible.

🎨 Creative Spotlight: Kayla’s Bronze Arts Award Journey!

As part of her Bronze Arts Award, Kayla has been exploring song lyrics from some of her favourite artists and transforming them into stunning artwork. This week, after creating a powerful piece titled “Stop Pressurin’ Me”, we took her creativity to the next level by projecting her artwork onto a dark wall - and even onto Kayla herself!

The results? Dramatic, inspiring, and full of personality. Kayla even said, “They would make really good album cover images.” We couldn’t agree more!

🌿 Outdoor Adventure in Action

Our Lancaster Outdoor Adventure students have been out exploring again, taking on a nearly 6-mile walk from Beaumont to Bolton-le-Sands.

The route took them via Green Lane, Black Castle Lane and Ancliffe Lane, with a well-earned lunch stop at Bolton-le-Sands Community Centre, before heading through Crawstone Wood and finishing at Crag Bank.

Despite flooded sections and boggy paths underfoot, the group kept their spirits high throughout and showed a strong team attitude, supporting one another every step of the way. A brilliant example of resilience, cooperation and determination in the great outdoors.

South Lakes - Epilepsy Society Fundraising Challenge

Staff at Beaumont College South Lakes have been walking to raise money and awareness for the Epilepsy Society. The challenge is 100 miles throughout the 31 days of January. Rosie, Vickie and Abi have already made plenty of progress with their challenge.

This fits in with the statistics that 1 in every 100 people live with epilepsy.
You can find more information online about the facts and statistics relating to epilepsy and the impact it can have on lives.

These walks also form the training walks for the Coniston to Barrow walking challenge which takes place in a few months and involves a large group of staff and students from the college.

As a specialist college, we see first-hand the impact epilepsy can have on individuals and their families. This is a way we can give back to the charities who strive for better seizure awareness and research into new ways to manage this neurological condition.

🌱 Christmas Trees Recycled – Back to Nature 🌲

Thank you to everyone who donated their real Christmas trees to college - work has already begun on recycling them back into nature.

Our Tuesday gardening group in Lancaster has started breaking the trees down and repurposing them for use in the garden, turning something seasonal into something sustainable.

It’s been a great hands-on activity, with teamwork, fresh air, and plenty of positive energy despite the winter conditions.

A brilliant example of how small community actions can make a real environmental difference.

🌟 The Power of Movement Harnesses

Movement harnesses can make a real difference for our students.

They support eye-level interaction, helping to build stronger communication and a greater sense of connection between students and their support. They also encourage active learning, allowing students to engage more confidently with their peers and their environment.

Working in a movement harness can enhance social interaction too, creating more opportunities for shared experiences in a safe, supported way.

Mia and Ruby have been enjoying working hard together in partnership during their Dance sessions.

Celebrating Creative Connections!

We were thrilled to attend the Creative Network launch at The Dukes, Lancaster, hosted by The Dukes and featuring an inspiring workshop led by "Chickenshed Theatre Company", London, a name many will recognise from their incredible performances on Britain’s Got Talent!

Vicky and Sarah as Dance specialists and Pathway leads, are both passionate about innovation and professional growth. It was fantastic to share ideas with such a pioneering company, who were so impressed with the work we do at Beaumont College that they approached us about partnering in the future!

We’ll be attending the Creative Network regularly to ensure we continue providing the best educational opportunities for our students, staying current, and driving creativity in education.

🌊 Student Success Story | South Lakes 🌊

We’re so proud of Arran, a student at Beaumont College South Lakes, who has taken an exciting step towards his dream career working with marine life.

Arran joined Beaumont College in September 2025 with a clear ambition – to one day work at an aquarium. With support from Job Coach Vickie Clegg and Employability Lead Rosie Talbot, Arran was given the opportunity to visit Lakes Aquarium for an informal interview and tour.

After several positive conversations with the team (huge thanks to Beth Nortley and Gary Hicks), Arran was absolutely delighted to be offered a work placement and start date

From day one, Arran threw himself into every task with enthusiasm. He completed a practice census, helped with stock rotation in the gift shop, assisted with cleaning duties, and proudly wore his new work experience uniform – all with a big smile and lots of thoughtful questions.

Arran also shared his passion for recycling and protecting wildlife from pollution, sparking conversations about conservation and how he can help raise awareness at college and in the local community. He’s already lined up a meeting with Milly, the aquarium’s conservation lead, to explore ways Beaumont College students can get involved in local conservation schemes.

Reflecting on his first day, Arran said:“They’ve kept me on my toes today!”.

Work placements like this are a vital part of life at Beaumont College, helping students gain real-world experience, build confidence and take meaningful steps towards their future goals.

Well done, Arran – we can’t wait to see where this journey takes you!

🌟 Celebrating Progress, One Step at a Time 🌟

A really special day for Kyle. After a long journey of building trust, confidence and feeling safe in his environment, he achieved an important milestone by accessing the new upstairs area for the first time last week.

Steps like this don’t happen overnight. They come from patience, understanding and working at the young person’s pace — and today’s success reflects just how far Kyle has come.

A huge thank you to Reece, Kyle’s keyworker, whose calm, consistent support has helped Kyle feel ready to take this step. This is what truly personalised support looks like.

We don’t often get the chance to share moments like this, but this is one to be celebrated! Well done Kyle — and well done to everyone involved.

Our Beaumont College South Lakes Team have had a fantastic 2025. Here’s a look back to some of our important moments from recent weeks. These include the Beaumont Choir singing at Walney Roundhouse, our performance of Aladdin at the Laurel and Hardy Museum, live performances by college musicians and singers, and a variety of other exciting Christmas events.

To top it all, just before Christmas, was the official grand opening of our second floor, attended by John Godden (CEO of Salutem - Beaumont College's parent organisation), Ulverston Town Mayor Shirley-Anne Wilson, and many other people who are part of our College Leadership and wider team.

We now look ahead to 2026 as we settle into the massive potential that our new floor brings. We would like to send our best wishes to all of the Beaumont family and network for the year ahead.

Our Digital Health is a research project that looks at how people with learning disabilities use technology for health and wellbeing. Funded by the National Institute for Health and Care Research, the project explores the different ways people experience digital health—seeing what works well for them and what could be improved. By working closely with people with learning disabilities, the project aims to make digital health more inclusive and helpful for everyone.

From the team:

We are looking for carers of people with learning disabilities to take part in a questionnaire about using technology to support health. We will want you to do the questionnaire twice.

For more information and to take part please email us at OurDigitalHealth@ljmu.ac.uk

🎬 Behind the scenes at Lancaster Museum!

Recently, Rebecca and William spent the day at Lancaster Museum acting as extras for the museum’s latest promotional video — and they did a brilliant job.

Both really enjoyed the experience, gained confidence in a real working environment, and were delighted to be gifted ÂŁ50 each as a thank you for their contribution.

A great opportunity, a fantastic effort, and a day to be proud of!

🎄 Spreading a little Christmas cheer 🎄

We’re really proud of our students for their involvement in the SC/IC Christmas Cheer Campaign. As part of the project (phase 3), students sold raffle tickets to raise money for charity, building confidence, communication and practical skills along the way.

Using her switching skills, Amy helped spin the wheel to randomly select the chosen charity – the Forget Me Not Centre at St John’s Hospice, Lancaster. Students then took turns drawing the winning tickets, making sure everyone played an active role in the process.

Thanks to everyone’s efforts, an amazing £166 was raised. A big thank you to all who supported the raffle and helped make this such a positive and meaningful experience for our students.
