Sunglasses season… well, it was on my walk into work this morning anyway.

By the time I walked home, the UK weather had already changed its mind. 🌦️

Made me think....

How many pairs of glasses do you actually have… and how many do you actually need?

For years, I wore contact lenses just so I could wear sunglasses and still see properly.

Contacts in, sunglasses on… and a whole lot of faff in between.

I was never once offered prescription sunglasses.

Not even asked. I used to think maybe you had to have a “certain” prescription for them to be suggested.

It wasn’t until I joined Optimum RX Lens Specialists that I realised just how many options there actually are when it comes to glasses, I haven’t worn contacts since!

Prescription sunglasses are a total game-changer.

I’ve now got a few pairs and so do my friends and family… and funnily enough, none of them had ever been asked about them either.

What would happen if everyone was asked an extra question, would it lead to more than one pair? 👀

Meet Sharon… and this Sunday she’s doing something she never imagined she’d do 🪂

Sharon from Optimum is stepping way outside her comfort zone and jumping out of a plane, alongside her colleagues, to raise funds for something incredibly important, a publicly accessible defibrillator right outside our building ❤️

Are you based on White Lund Industrial Estate? This is for you too, because in an emergency, every second counts.

It’s easy to underestimate how critical that is… until you realise how little time there really is when a cardiac arrest happens.

In the UK:
• Around 30,000 out-of-hospital cardiac arrests each year
• Only 3% happen within 100m of a defibrillator
• Fewer than 10% receive AED support before emergency services arrive

But when CPR and a defibrillator are used early, survival chances can double.

That’s why Sharon is taking the leap, to help make sure life-saving equipment is never far away.

Our Story

In 2011 the business underwent a transformation that included the appointment of a new Managing Director and the creation of a purpose-built laboratory facility. The laboratory uses state-of-the-art surfacing, polishing, cleaning and lacquering technology together with some of the industry’s most advanced processes and equipment to ensure a consistently high quality service.

In addition to developing and manufacturing its own brands, Optimum also supplies leading branded lenses too – providing a convenient and cost-effective one-stop-shop for customers. We’re one of only a small number of independent laboratories in UK to do this. That’s why Optimum has grown into the lens coating supplier of choice for both independent opticians and well-known, high street ophthalmic stores.

As well as our commitment to quality, our processes also ensure efficiency. On average 90% of all orders are coated and dispatched by the next working day. We can also offer an even speedier, express delivery service to fulfil any urgent requests.

Through hard work and our excellent reputation, we now work in every corner of the UK – with opticians and laboratories alike.
