When I first started teaching Pilates - there was this thing we used to call the ‘purest’ Pilates teachers - they were the ‘Pilates Police’. They believed that Pilates should just be taught in the classical style with NO deviations.

Now at risk of sounding like the ‘Pilates Police’ I’m going to spout off about the reformer studios that are popping up EVERYWHERE!

“Beginner classes” on machines with springs, straps and moving parts. The reformer was never designed as a trendy workout.

It was created as a rehabilitation tool. Built from a hospital bed in a prisoner of war camp. Designed to help injured bodies (soldiers) relearn how to move safely.

Not to throw beginners onto before they even understand their own body, with inexperienced teachers. It’s a disaster waiting to happen.

If you can’t control your body on the mat, you have no business trying to control it on a moving machine, in a class full of people without individual attention to your breath, control and ability to perform the exercise correctly!

That’s not me being dramatic, or having sour grapes. In fact, I appauld anyone setting up a studio - I’m the one person who understands how hard that is, after running my studio for 11 years.

That’s me protecting you - I’m now getting some of my clients coming back to me with injuries from reformer studios.

Here’s what I see happening far too often:

• People gripping through their neck and shoulders
• Holding their breath without even realising
• Bearing down into their pelvic floor
• Moving fast, with zero control

All while lying on something that’s literally moving underneath them.

And then they wonder why things don’t feel right.
Why their back hurts.
Why their pelvic floor symptoms get worse.
Why they feel disconnected instead of stronger.

Pilates was never meant to be rushed.

It’s about awareness.
Control.
Breath.
Understanding how your body actually works.

And that starts on the mat.

This is exactly why I’ve created my Beginner Pilates Program.

We start in May 6 weeks of learning how your body moves and the basics of Pilates.

I’m getting loads of you asking me about Keto, because you’re seeing the fab results I’m getting with myself and my clients.

Here’s a couple of things;

1. Keto is great - but it’s not for everyone. Keto is not a diet it’s a metabolic state. That’s what you need to understand. Most people don’t.

2. It’s not just about the nutrition - it’s the movement, hydration, light.

3. Your hormones need to be balanced.

4. Your body needs to feel safe.

Keto is one part of a whole solution - this is what I teach in ‘Wisdom Well’. This is how I get the fab results with my clients.

It’s not a quick fix - it’s a whole new lifestyle. I live it, and many of my clients now live it.

We’re learning to be modern day cave women 😆

Some days it’s just good to move and flow, other days we think about stuff.

And, today we thought about our 🦴. Joseph Pilates rarely mentions muscles in his writing, but he does talk about bones and alignment.

Good posture is not just in standing, it’s in sitting, squatting, lunging, bending - doing all of the things.

When you come out of alignment it can affect your muscles - particularly your pelvic floor - your whole bowl tips over.

Today’s class we not only learned where things should be, we felt them…listened in on our bodies and found our alignment in different positions.

Such important work for longevity and bone health.
