As we come to the Summer Bank Holiday weekend, we hold in our thoughts those who we have walked alongside this week and those who have trusted us to care for them.

We are available on our usual numbers over the long weekend and our commitment to being there for you when you need us is still there.

Shirley Farrington

For those in the Funeral Profession in Somerset and locally to the Taunton area, Mrs Shirley Farrington, wife of the late Nigel Farrington of Leonard E Smith, Funeral Directors has passed away peacefully with her family at her side and close in mind.

Shirley’s Funeral Service will be held at St John’s Church, Staplegrove on Thursday 11th September 2025 at 1pm. Shirley will then be laid to rest with Nigel, her husband who passed away earlier this year.

Shirley was a friend to many within the local churches and organisations and a fantastic support to many Funeral Directors over the years as a respected member of the profession.

Pauline Richards

Wednesday 20th August will see the cortege of Pauline Richards ( Miss KFC) pass by the place she worked at.

Pauline’s family invite the people of Taunton to pay their respects from around 1pm outside of the KFC Restaurant in Taunton before her private funeral service for her family and close friends.

Our friends and neighbours in Bath Place will still be open during the closure of the High Street entrance tunnel to their unique shopping experience.

Essential works are happening in the tunnel for a week from Monday 18th August.

You can still access all these wonderful independent businesses by using the entrance from the Creacent Car Park or via the Library Garden entrance or from the main Crescent entrance.

Don’t let a little light maintenance put you off visiting Taunton’s most vibrant street. 🌙🎩

We had the honour of looking after the funeral for a much loved lady today, she wasn’t just cherished by people, her beloved animals came to pay their respects as well.

The village church was filled with love and surrounded with everything she held dear.

We are grateful for moments like this, sharing the life of someone who lived life to the full and at its close a personalised farewell was created with the help of our team led by Katie with a beautiful willow coffin from Musgrove Willows Ltd and flowers by Shed Flowers

No fuss, no ceremony, just goodbye!

Our Reflection Service is a special alternative to a traditional funeral.

When you can’t face not paying your respects in person, but you or the person who has died didn’t want a big public funeral, we can help you create a short but meaningful farewell at a local crematorium, allowing you to say goodbye as you wish.

A 30 minute reflection service will happen in the opening ceremony times in the morning you can simply sit and listen to music , or you may choose to mark the time with your own words and personal tributes.

If you want a brief service, this too can be arranged, simple and reflective to suit your needs.

We provide our hearse if required, a simple Jute Eco Coffin and the guidance and care you would always get from our team.

We share the arrangements for the Taunton Community to pay their respects to Pauline Richards, known to many as Miss KFC.

Pauline’s cortege will pass by KFC and through the town on Wednesday 20th August at around 1pm, where you are invited to gather to pay your respects.

Pauline will then be remembered by close family and friends at a private Funeral Service.

We’ve been asked why we call our places of work “Funeral Homes” ?

Quite simply, we have created beautiful, comfortable and safe spaces for our families to visit to either make arrangements or to spend time with the special person who has died.

A home is a beautiful, comfortable and safe space we choose to live in, so we wanted to offer a space that felt a bit like that.

Simon has worked in many different styles of Funeral business over his 30 year career and wanted to move away from the traditional dark colours often associated with Funeral Directors premises, we think it’s been achieved and the feedback from those we care for says it all.

We always extend a comfortable welcome and a Coffee or Tea to any visitor to our Funeral Homes and we hope that whoever finds themselves needing our services will feel that. 🌙🎩🏡

We were reminded today how important it is to have the conversation.

Whilst speaking with a family about the arrangements for a funeral, it was remarked upon just how wonderful it had been for them to know the wishes of their father.

The family feel so lucky to have had the conversation, knowing these wishes have made the navigation of funeral arrangements so much easier.

Of course there is sadness, but there have been smiles as well, knowing that they are creating a person centred funeral with there treasured father at its heart.

We recommend that having the conversation is a powerful and helpful tool to get things just right when faced with big decisions.
