We had seen on the 'Our Echo' device that it was a Celebration of life day, so we thought we would incorporate an afternoon of being together. Our manager Clare bought a lovely selection of flowers, tulips, carnations and yellow roses which symbolise friendship, joy and happiness. Making it a perfect activity for cheering each other up. We incorporated this into flower arranging, enjoyed creating our own bouquets/vases. This has helped with wellness and wellbeing, enhancing cognitive function and motor skills.

Yesterday was Winnie the Pooh Day. Everyone had fond memories and remembers the little bear and his friends. We sang along to the song and then decided it would be great to make honey sandwiches. We had some bread, butter and honey and enjoyed making honey sandwiches to eat. This activity has been good for social interaction and wellness, good for fine motor skills and coordination. We also printed a Winnie the Pooh matching card game from the Our Echo activity platform, a simple but fun game that helped with our memory skills.

On Thursday when checking Our Echo, we saw that it was Hat Day, we spent time chatting about different styles and when it was fashionable to wear them. We then enjoyed making our own unique hats from newspaper. We spent time creating our very own designs, decorating using tissue paper, shapes made from textured coloured card and glitter. This activity has many benefits including helping with motor skills and hand- eye coordination which assist with daily tasks. It has sparked conversations and has been enjoyable as a social interaction, chatting and engaging together helps with anxiety and low moods. Overall enhancing their wellbeing.

On Thursday morning our activity was created to help stimulate cognitive function, enhance sensory stimulation and maintain motor skills. We had some wooden discs which had grooves in, we also had a varied selection of coloured wool which we used to wrap around the disc. This then created a colourful hanging decoration which the everyone enjoyed making. This activity is great for our coordination, fine motor skills and dexterity.

Yesterday afternoon we had our Coffee with Clare meeting, we have been discussing what we planned to do over the next few months. We have put a map of Britain up and plan to find out where residents have lived and incorporate different foods which are familiar to those areas. We then would like residents to participate in creating some of these dishes by cooking or baking themselves. Residents found this to be an interesting topic and all seemed enthusiastic and engaging with this. We began by having a tasting afternoon with different cheeses from around Somerset. We ate a varied selection with crackers and chutneys and cups of tea/ coffee.

This morning we welcomed Izzi back after the Christmas break, we thought it would be nice on a miserable rainy day to brighten up the home. We have made some beautiful mirrors to hang up.

On Friday we were looking through the Our Echo device and noticed that it was Apricot day. We spent time talking about apricots and then other fruits. This turned into a conversation about jam tarts. We decided that in the afternoon we would make our own apricot tarts which we enjoyed with a lovely cuppa. This activity has been designed to help with fine motor skills ,enhancing cognitive function and being together in a social environment.
