During the warmer weather, it’s the perfect time to give your feet some extra care and attention. Here are my top tips to keep your feet healthy, comfortable, and looking their best this summer:
Remove nail polish, please take off nail polish before your podiatry appointment. While the colours are lovely, I need to see your nails clearly to assess your foot and overall health.
Gardeners, wear shoes, always wear footwear while gardening to protect against injury. If you use sprays or fertilisers, wash your hands and legs afterward to prevent skin reactions.
Use sun cream, it may not have been a big thing in the '60s, but it's vital now. Apply sunscreen from head to toe, especially on your feet. Remember: Slip on clothes, Slop on sunscreen, Slap on a hat, Slide on sunglasses, and Sit in the shade.
If you have Diabetes , check your feet daily. Hot weather can cause swelling that masks small injuries. Regular checks can help prevent serious complications.
Blisters, transitioning to sandals can cause blisters. Moisturise your feet daily and avoid popping blisters. If one bursts, cover it with a sterile plaster.
Foot pain, summer shoes often lack support. This can trigger heel pain or plantar fasciitis. Choose supportive, cushioned footwear where possible.
Trim toenails properly, make sure your nails are neat. Use nail nippers, starting in the middle and working outward.
Stay hydrated, aim for 2 litres of water daily, more in the heat, to support your overall health.
Put your feet up, elevate your feet when you can. It boosts circulation and reduces swelling.
