🥚Donor Egg Treatment Aroad🥚
This makes an informative but uncomfortable read about the global egg trade. It's not all bad, there is good news in there too. The team have done an excellent job in highlighting the real experiences of egg donors.
If you are thinking about using donor eggs abroad, you need to know that:
🍄Internationally, record keeping seems to be variable, tracking imports and exports is not a perfect science
🍄The number of times a woman can donate is not well regulated (think about half siblings and consanguinity)
🍄Donation is often seen as a financial means to an end.
If going abroad for egg donation ask, explicitly, where have the eggs come from, they may have been imported from a country other than the one you are attending. Then ask yourself if that is comfortable for you.
This article does not cover what donors are told about the real lack of anonymity and why that matters for the future children. I do not know what they are being told.
🇬🇧People who donate in the UK receive limited compensation up to £975 only, it is made very clear in my clinics that they are likely to be contacted by the DC child, and this may be before the child turns 18 years of age. There is a 10 family limit in the UK.
🇦🇷However, clinics in the UK, NHS and private sector are now importing eggs from Argentina. The benefit is that this is open donation with a 10 family limit in the UK. However, as with donor s***m, you may find a network of donor siblings around the world.
Contained within the article are links to 3 podcasts on YouTube that summarise it well.
Wondering if anyone wants to discuss further in a Reflect & Connect session??
