Before we know it, it will be Christmas and we have started by making Christmas cakes at pop-up café.

Barchester have a Christmas Cake competition every year and we like to have our own in-house competition too, so we have made six delicious cakes and later on, every kitchen unit will decorate a cake. Afterwards we all enjoy eating the cakes. They smell wonderful and very Christmassy and we can’t wait to taste them.

Graham came with his award winning Drums4Fun CIC workshop. This time Graham told us lots of interesting things about the music and we played along using the percussion instruments he brought with him. Huge thank you to the two volunteers, who come along to help carry all the equipment in and out. We wish you could hear the drumming and singing but the photos speak volumes.

Mitzi is a therapy dog and she visits us with her handler Sue on Wednesday mornings.

Mitzi has been approved by Therapy Dogs Nationwide because of her lovely temperament and her eagerness to meet people. Sue and Mitzi have visited us for several months so now Mitzi knows exactly where to go to get a cuddle and a treat. We are so lucky to have the support of both Sue and Mitzi because we can see the huge benefits, being able to spend a little time in Mitzi’s company give to so many of us.

Jumping Out Jazz came to play an electric set for us before moving on to do bed room visits.

Gareth and Mark Bullen are very comfortable about going into rooms where people may be in bed and unable to join their electric sets. It means so many more people can enjoy their music.

It was like having a music therapist when Footprint came to sing for and with us.

Elly took her microphone out amongst residents and sang with anyone who wanted to join her. Some were dancing and several people, who are sometimes more reluctant to take centre stage, were really enjoying themselves. Music is good for the soul and after Elly’s visit, we were very tired and content.

Our Resident Ambassador took part in the Remembrance Parade and laid a poppy wreath on behalf of all of us at Kernow House.

It was a very wet morning so we dressed up and joined many other groups and organisations in Launceston who also took part in the Remembrance Service. The people who couldn’t go, watched the Festival of Remembrance on televisions and did some wordsearches printed off from Oomph!OnDemand. Earlier in the month Revd. Mary Williamson delivered a Remembrance Service for us in the home. Lest we forget.

Residents tell us, they like to see live animals in the home so we have regular visits from a variety of interesting animals.

This time David Buncle came to show us his birds of prey. Spook the barn owl came and David showed us how Spook learns to hunt by using Rodney the Rat – a remote controlled rat. We also saw Carrion Marion, the Turkey Vulture and Joaquin, the Harris Hawk. David has so much knowledge about birds of prey and it was very interesting listening to him.

We needed a new display for Millaton so we used a Creative Mojo Ltd collage kit to make pictures reminding us of the Brazilian rain forest.

Residents from all units were involved in making the collages and everyone can see them hanging on Millaton where they bring a little sunshine and colour in on dull grey autumn days.

🎃 Halloween Celebrations 🎃

Residents, patients and colleagues got into the Halloween spirit of things by creating beautiful autumnal displays with painted and carved pumpkins, flowers and wreaths.

Many of our care homes and hospitals hosted fun-filled Halloween events with delicious treats, mocktails, live music entertainment, costume competitions and community celebrations.

It's safe to say that everyone had a spooktacular time. 👻

Here are some of our favourite moments.

👻🎃 Bewitching Tricks and Spooky Treats 👻🎃

Springvale Court Care Home, in Wrekenton, , was a den of ghoulish activity as the home’s spooky Halloween Adams Family got into full swing.

Colleagues embraced the spirit of Halloween by dressing up as The Addams Family. Morticia, Gomez, Pugsley, Wednesday, Uncle Fester, Cousin Itt and Lurch all visited Trinity Square in Gateshead town centre to hand out goodie bags for children and adults, and everyone had the opportunity to have their photo taken with the Addams Family.

General Manager, Gemma Rooney, shared: “Our staff love any excuse for fancy dress day! – we’ve all had a brilliant time.”

The team at Springvale Court commented: “It has been such a fun day. It was wonderful to see everyone go to so much effort to get into the Halloween spirit. And seeing the smiles on everyone’s faces’’.

🔍 Thursday Night Murder Club at Caldy Manor 🕵️‍♀️

It was an evening to remember at Caldy Manor Care Home on the as residents, colleagues and friends from Heswall & District Ladies Circle turned detectives, suspects and stars in the home’s very own Thursday Murder Club-themed evening.

Inspired by Richard Osman’s much-loved mystery novels, there were hilarious plot twists and some truly Oscar-worthy performances, the night was packed with laughs and fantastic acting from everyone involved.

A huge thank you to all, the experience was a roaring success.

Safe to say… no one saw the ending coming! 😉
