Breaking News! Pennygillam Community Woodland has received funding to offer FREE family sessions at the Forest School site. We will play, create, explore, connect and generally have a fun time in the beautiful woodlands. Booking not essential but handy for anticipating numbers (booking link in comments). I can’t wait to see you there! Did I mention it’s completely FREE!! Children must bring a responsible adult.

I am very excited to announce the launch of Nature Ed-Venturers DROP OFF* Forest School sessions. Fridays 11-2 at Pennygillam Community Woodland with myself and the amazingly knowledgable and experienced Sue Anderson. This session is for young people aged 10+ and booking is now open! I’ll pop link in the comments.

*if your young person needs a parent or carer with them for additional support, that is absolutely fine

Expression of interest: DROP OFF FOREST SCHOOL (ages 10+)

I have had multiple requests for a drop off session for young people. At the moment, it looks like I may be able to offer this on Fridays 11-2 with a wonderfully knowledgable and experienced person. This session would be £20.

I was super impressed by our whittlers today. As well as plenty of swinging, tree climbing, zip lining and hammock chilling, we made marshmallow toasting sticks. For 2 children this was their first time and they did a great job. One young person said “I’ve only done this once and I cut myself” (not at a Nature Nicki session) and was a bit anxious, but he took great care, followed instructions and was really proud of his stick at the end. The eldest, took whittling to the next level and made himself a butter knife as well as his toasting stick. Parents and carers also had a go, commenting on how therapeutic it is to sit and whittle. Giant marshmallows well deserved. Thankyou all for a wonderful Summer in Nature session. We will have 1 next Wednesday before school starts back. Just need to get it up on Bookwhen

I’m off to Edinburgh this week encouraging people to pause and think about a time when they were lost in wonder. For me, probably unsurprisingly, Nature often gives me a sense of awe and wonder - looking up at the stars on a clear night, the view from a mountain top, the sound of a waterfall, the intricate details of a bumble bee, the rich diversity of flowers… I could go on. I’d love to hear what makes you feel that sense of wonder.

Nicki and Anne Middleton love our Immersed in Nature sessions - 2nd Tuesday evening of the month (except August!) - making space to be lost in wonder...

Setting off this morning for the Edinburgh Fringe - looking forward to many transformational conversations from a simple question:

When there’s free face paint at the Plymouth SEN fun and networking day!! I had a lovely day doing a few activities and chatting to people about how Forest School can offer an environment where children and young people can thrive! Thanks SEND Help Plymouth for inviting me along

I have had some wonderful Thankyou messages from yesterday’s session. I feel so lucky to have a job I love, in such a beautiful woodland, and getting to work with so many fabulous people. Sharing a couple:

There is something truly magical about sitting under a trap while the rain beats down around you. It was so wonderful to go to Nature Nicki Forest School for the first time today, what a beautiful space she has here! We made fairy doors. All of us coming together to contribute to a trail that many others can enjoy 🧚‍♀️✨️
