I am so excited to share that I have signed up to the Transparent Presence CIC business ally scheme. I am passionate about creating inclusive, safe Forest School Communities for all and I want to publicly declare that I support trans and non binary people and will respect pronouns and gender identities at my sessions.

Nature Nicki is a proud member of the queer community and is passionate about enabling all people to enjoy time in nature. The weather forecast keeps getting worse so sadly I am cancelling tomorrow’s Nature Explorers. It is then half term and I have a hospital appointment the following week. So the next Nature Explorers will be Monday 10th November.

Heads up Nature Explorers - wind speed is bordering on too high tomorrow. I am keeping a close eye on it (I happen to be married to a meteorologist so that’s quite handy!) and will confirm or cancel in the morning. If you have booked on and it does have to be cancelled, I will happily transfer your booking to another session.

Nature Ed-Venturers. Drop off* Forest School sessions every Friday 11am-2pm at Pennygillam Community Woodland for young people aged 10+. This is such a fab group but we could do with a few more members to make it viable. We have lots of fun with crafts, tool work, cooking on the campfire, physical play, nature connection activities and games. We are very much a learner led, low demand environment with SEN experience. Why not come and join us!

*parents/carers are very welcome to stay if that works better for your family.

At Nature Minded this morning the children had a go with the hammer, tapping golf tees into the pumpkin. They were brilliant: taking it in turns, following instructions, keeping themselves and their friends safe and having a go at this tricky task. Well done everyone!

For anyone Plymouth way, I co-lead immersed in Nature and tomorrow evening we will be celebrating Harvest and taking some time to give thanks for all that nature offers. A space for adults of all faiths and none.

What a busy session we had today! Our Nature Explorers were brilliant. We got the big net up, made wrap calzone pizzas, climbed trees and slides, created scavenger hunts, played games, made leaf bats and sorted a coat and bag rack! All in 3 hours. Nature Explorers is on next week and then will break for half term.

Yesterday was World Mental Health Day. The sad reality at the moment is that more and more people are stressed, anxious, depressed and struggling to cope while services are overstretched and unable to offer people the support they need.

BUT

Time in nature is proven to help. Honestly. The simple act of getting outside and into a green space reduces stress. Why not join a forest school group and see the positive effect it can have? Or go for a walk in your local woodland, moor or park?

Today at Nature Minded we had some muddy fun! Soil, water, paintbrushes or sticks and a shower curtain - great fun, and yes, I did have to have a go myself!

Today’s excitement - I found a “free gate” as I was driving to work so I pulled over and loaded it up. In the woods, some of the children have been building climbing platforms and we decided this would be a ready made platform. So we searched for a suitable tree, did some sawing, lashing, plenty of problems solving and team work and ta da!!
