We're proud to be sponsoring Cornwall player Ben Hancock for his first season at Launceston Rugby Club after signing from Bude. Todays first league game against Topsham unfortunately ended in a 19 - 8 defeat.

However Ben received 'man of the match', so positives can be taken! We wish him all the best for the season and we look forward to seeing plenty of his explosive, physical rugby! 🏉💥

PURE CREMATION have been doing local leaflet drops. Part of their national advertising campaign which costs 10's of millions of pounds each year. You've probably seen them all over the Television as well.

Their direct cremation service starts at £1995.00 for the single payment option. The deceased will be taken to ANDOVER for the cremation (which a lot of people aren't aware of).
❌️ You will have no face to face contact with a funeral director.
❌️ You won't be informed of the date and time of the cremation.
❌️ You will not have the option to place personal items in the coffin.

Our direct cremation service is £1345.00. If you choose to take it out in a funeral plan, the Golden Charter administration fee is £325.00, totalling £1670.00. Which is still over £300 cheaper than Pure Cremation!!!

By choosing a local, independent funeral director:
✅️ You're supporting a family-run business, not a big, national corporate.
✅️ The cremation will be carried out locally, not hundreds of miles away.
✅️ You will make arrangements face to face with a funeral director, who is a trusted and well known member of your community.
✅️ You will be informed of the date and time of the cremation.
✅️ The ashes will be returned to the Family in a timely manner.
✅️ IT'S CHEAPER!!

So please consider these factors before signing up to a large, corporate direct cremation company, being led to believe they're cheaper and easier.....

Our charity for August's breakfast was Launceston Community Larder - Love Your Neighbour, Launceston UK. Thank you to Mike for giving us an insight in to how it began, how it works and what they do for the local community. We managed to raise a total of £69.02 from the BOBs in attendance.

Their aim is to tackle food waste and give local people access to good nutritious food that would otherwise be thrown away. This helps to reduce our impact on the environment and save money. It's also there to help people who are struggling with the cost of living and may find it difficult to put food on the table, or even a roof over their head.

The larder is held at Launceston Central Methodist Church in the Dingley Hall, on Castle Street in the centre of town. The food available at the community larder is free to everyone.

If you would like to make a donation to show your support, they would be very grateful, but this is not essential. Any donations help fund the running costs of the larder.

Thank you to our hosts Trethorne Leisure Park for the top notch breakfast as always 🍳🥓🥐☕️

Cornwall as a rural county with its abundance of fields and large farming communities, being buried on your own land is often considered a very fitting final resting place for those who have farmed the same ground for generations, or those who simply own a piece of land or garden that holds a special place in their heart.

Many aren’t aware this is even an option, and contrary to popular belief, it’s very straight forward to arrange and can offer a very personal, informal and memorable occasion, in a unique and beautiful setting.

The only regulations you must adhere to are the following:

✅ The grave must be dug a certain distance from any water source, such as a well, borehole or stream (consult your local council or environmental agency for their requirements).
✅ You must declare the grave within the deeds of the property or land.

However, there are some serious considerations to bear in mind when planning a burial on private land:

❓Thinking long term; Is the land likely to remain in the family for generations to come, or is there a good chance it will be sold to somebody outside of the family in the near future? This could mean access to the grave is difficult or not possible at all in the future (especially if it’s in the garden of a residential property).
❓The value of the property may be affected if you wish to sell in the future.
❓ As the surviving family, are you comfortable with having a grave in your personal and private space?
❓ If you move from this property, will you be comfortable leaving your loved one in that location? If not, an exhumation will be required, and these are extremely expensive and require a license from the ministry of justice. This can also be emotionally distressing for the family.

We have taken care of many burials on private land and always warmly accommodate this request.

If you have any questions or would like to know more about burials on private land, please don’t hesitate to get in touch.

📍St. Clether Church (St. Clederus Church) - Was dedicated in 1259 to the present patron saint, and was held during the reign of Edward I as part of the manor of Treglasta in Davidstow. Nothing seems to be known of its Norman history, but the presence of capitals implies a church of some importance in this period.

The church was rebuilt in 1865, retaining the scalloped capitals and some of the masonry of the West column and the Norman South arcade. The font is also of the Norman period.

A large chapel was built next to the Holy Well of Clederus, who was thought to have been buried there on 23rd October AD 483. The chapel served as the Parish Church until the 12th century, when a new, much larger church was built on the valley slope about half a mile to the east, which is the one we know today.
