Clare Spiers - Grief Recovery Specialist

Clare Spiers - Grief Recovery Specialist Grief walk and talk and retreats. Chair of WCAVA I discovered the Grief Recovery Method when I felt lost, confused and in a lot of pain.

I work with individuals and groups to overcome the despair of grief and begin their recovery from the pain of loss using The Grief Recovery Method; the only evidence based grief programme in the world. I recognised that I was experiencing deep grief and I wanted to find an alternative to therapy and counselling to help myself move beyond the pain. Whilst recent losses (redundancy and the sudden loss of a family member) bought me to Grief UK, I came to realise, as I was learning the Grief Recovery Method, that I had a significant amount of unresolved grief as a result of a family suicide in my childhood. Whilst it was somewhat daunting to revisit my experiences, I knew this was where my true recovery would begin. It has helped me tremendously, I feel lighter, and independent studies have proven that it works. As a result, I also learnt that I felt deeply compelled, (that it is my purpose even), to help others move beyond their pain and trained as an Advanced Grief Recovery Specialist. Previous participants have also report having experienced recovery from physical illnesses as a result of completing the programme.

🤯 “Why does grief feel so overwhelming?”

Because grief isn’t just about loss.

It’s about everything that loss touches.

When we lose someone, we don’t just lose the person we lose:

The routines they were part of 🕰️
The future we imagined with them 🌅
The version of ourselves we were when they were here 💞

No wonder it feels like too much. It is too much for one heart to hold.

That’s why I often recommend these grounding practices:

✅ Take grief in small pieces (day by day, hour by hour).

✅ Allow your body to rest fatigue is part of grief.

✅ Find a safe place to share your story because saying it out loud reduces the weight you carry.

✨ Overwhelm eases when we stop trying to “manage” grief and start allowing it to be witnessed.

If your heart’s tired of carrying the weight alone, I see you.

Let’s lighten it together.

I thought I was doing grief wrong.

I kept waiting for the “stages of grief” to unfold like the textbooks said.

Denial. Anger. Bargaining. Depression. Acceptance.

Except… my grief didn’t look like that.

One day I felt fine. The next I couldn’t get out of bed.

Some days I laughed. Other days, the smallest thing would undo me.

I remember thinking: “Am I broken? Am I grieving the wrong way?”

What I’ve since learned and what I now share with others is this:

➡️ Grief doesn’t follow a checklist.

➡️ There is no “wrong” way.

➡️ The only mistake is believing you have to do it alone.

If you’ve ever felt like your grief doesn’t “fit the mould,” please know:

✨ You are grieving exactly as you need to.

If your heart’s tired of carrying the weight alone, I see you.

Let’s lighten it together.

"Am I grieving the right way?"

That’s one of the most common questions I hear and if you’ve ever typed it into Google after a loss you’re not alone.

Here are some of the most searched questions about grief:

🔎 “Is how I feel after a loss normal?”

🔎 “Do I have to go through the stages of grief?”

🔎 “Why does grief feel so overwhelming?”

🔎 “How do I support myself or others while grieving?”

🔎 “Do grief apps actually help?”

The truth is, grief isn’t a formula.

It doesn’t follow neat stages. It isn’t something to “fix".

It’s personal, unpredictable and very human.

👉 If you’re supporting yourself: Be gentle. Small daily steps matter more than a “timeline”.

👉 If you’re supporting someone else: Listen more than you speak. Presence is more healing than perfect words.

👉 And yes technology can help some people but no app replaces real connection and compassionate support.

As a Grief Recovery Specialist my message is simple:

✨ However you are grieving right now it’s valid. You’re not broken and you don’t have to walk through it alone.

If your heart’s tired of carrying the weight alone, I see you.

Let’s lighten it together.

GRIEF WALK & TALK

This Sunday in Leamington for anyone that will benefit from sharing time with others that appreciate their experience.

I’ve been hosting these for the last 18 months because grief can be lonely and sharing time, talking, supporting each other whilst spending time in nature can offer some respite to the often isolating experience.

We walk for about an hour at our own pace in the beautiful surroundings of the comyn and many of us go to the pub after for a cuppa.

Turn up on the day at the meeting point by 10.30am or they can drop me a message to let me know to look out for you.

From my heart you yours

Clare ❤️‍🩹 xx

“Don’t feel bad.”

“Keep busy.”

“Time heals all wounds.”

Sound familiar?

These are the messages we inherit not because they work but because no one taught us better.

The Grief Recovery Method invites us to unlearn these myths and replace them with practical, honest tools that support true healing.

✨ Self-development starts when we question what we’ve been told and choose something kinder.

If your heart’s tired of carrying the weight alone, I see you.

Let’s lighten it together.

Grief is not a weakness.

We often treat grief like a detour...something to hide, fix, or “get over” but grief is not a flaw.

It’s the natural and normal response to loss.

👉 What if we saw grief as an opportunity for deep inner work?

The Grief Recovery Method gives you tools to face loss honestly, without pretending you’re fine when you’re not. It’s not about forgetting it’s about freedom.

🧭 True self-development means learning not just how to grow but how to let go.

If your heart’s tired of carrying the weight alone, I see you.

Let’s lighten it together.

🐾 International Dog Day: Honouring the bond, acknowledging the grief

For many of us, our dogs are more than pets they are family, companions and a steady source of love and connection. On International Dog Day while we celebrate the joy they bring it’s also important to acknowledge the grief that comes when we lose them.

Here are 5 reflections on pet loss through the lens of The Grief Recovery MethodÂŽ:

1️⃣ Grief is natural. The loss of a dog is not “less than” other types of loss it is as real and valid.

2️⃣ Language matters. Well-meaning phrases like “at least it was only a pet” can unintentionally dismiss the depth of pain.

3️⃣ Rituals help. From memory books to small ceremonies, creating ways to honour their life supports healing.

4️⃣ Connection eases isolation. Sharing stories and speaking openly about loss helps us feel less alone.

5️⃣ Recovery is possible. The Grief Recovery Method® provides structured tools to navigate loss with compassion and intention.

💛 Today is a reminder not only to celebrate the joy our dogs bring, but also to support those quietly navigating the heartbreak of goodbye.

👉 If you’re grieving the loss of a pet and would like support, I’m here to listen and share how the Grief Recovery Method® can help.

From my heart to yours

5 Things We Were Never Taught About Loss

We learn to acquire
From childhood we’re shown how to win, achieve and build but no one explains what to do when it all unravels.

Loss is inevitable but guidance is rare
Whether it’s a job, relationship, or loved one loss touches every life. Yet we’re left without tools to navigate it.

Grief is not just sadness
It can look like anger, numbness, fatigue or even overwork. But we’re rarely taught to recognise these as grief.

Coping isn’t the same as healing
Pushing through might get us by day to day but it doesn’t mend what’s broken inside.

There is a method for recovery
The Grief Recovery Method isn’t therapy it’s education in emotional truth. It fills the missing subject in life’s curriculum, offering not just survival but transformation.

🔧 This week, we’ll explore how grief recovery can become a tool for self-development a way to grow through what we go through.

Grief shows up in so many ways not just after a death.

It can come after a breakup, a move, the loss of a job, or even when life changes in ways we didn’t expect.

When did you first realise you were grieving something? (You can share as much or as little as you like.)

If your heart’s tired of carrying the weight alone, I see you.

I thought I’d already grieved.

The funeral was over, the cards had stopped arriving, and people had stopped asking how I was.

I told myself: You’re fine now.

But I wasn’t.

Here’s what I learned through the Grief Recovery Method:

1. Grief isn’t just sadness.
It’s also the unspoken words, the unsent messages, and the memories you avoid because they’re still too sharp.

2. Healing takes action, not just time.
Time alone doesn’t ‘fix’ grief. Guided steps can help you process it in a healthy, lasting way.

3. You don’t have to do it alone.
Having a safe space to share, without judgement or advice, is more powerful than I imagined.

4. Peace doesn’t mean forgetting.
It means remembering with more love than pain.

Grief doesn’t follow a timeline but it can follow a path forward.

If your heart’s tired of carrying the weight alone, I see you.

Let’s lighten it together.
