Clare Spiers - Grief Recovery Specialist

Clare Spiers - Grief Recovery Specialist Also; grief walk and talk and retreats. I discovered the Grief Recovery Method when I felt lost, confused and in a lot of pain.

I work with individuals and groups to overcome the despair of grief and begin their recovery from the pain of loss using The Grief Recovery Method; the only evidence based grief recovery programme in the world. I recognised that I was experiencing deep grief and I wanted to find an alternative to therapy and counselling to help myself move beyond the pain. Whilst recent losses (redundancy and the

sudden loss of a family member) bought me to Grief UK, I came to realise, as I was learning the Grief Recovery Method, that I had a significant amount of unresolved grief as a result of a family suicide in my childhood. Whilst it was somewhat daunting to revisit my experiences, I knew this was where my true recovery would begin. It has helped me tremendously, I feel lighter, and independent studies have proven that it works. As a result, I also learnt that I felt deeply compelled, (that it is my purpose even), to help others move beyond their pain and trained as an Advanced Grief Recovery Specialist. Previous participants have also report having experienced recovery from physical illnesses as a result of completing the programme.

When you lose something big, you have to grow bigger to hold it.

Here are 3 ways loss can grow you even when it feels impossible:

1️⃣ Your heart stretches.
You discover you can hold love and pain in the same space.

2️⃣ Your perspective widens.
What once felt urgent becomes less important; what truly matters becomes clear.

3️⃣ Your strength deepens.
You realise you can keep going, even when you thought you couldn’t.

Loss changes you.

Sometimes it feels like it has broken you.

But often it has made you larger than you were before.

If your heart’s tired of carrying the weight alone, I see you.

Let’s lighten it together.

Our next walk is Sunday 30th August.

We're a welcoming a friendly community for anyone that would benefit from joining us. We walk for about an hour, come rain or shine, and then grab a drink in the pub afterwards.

Come along on the day or get in touch with me to let me know that you'll be joining.

I've made a lot of new connections recently so let me introduce myself..

Hi, I’m Clare Spiers and I'm a Grief Recovery Specialist.

Four years ago I really didn’t know how to move forward. I was grieving. Through that pain I found the Grief Recovery Method. It changed everything. It helped me work through my recent losses and identify the unresolved ones too.

Sadly my step father died by su***de when I was 7, a loss that I'd unsuccessfully tried to work through before. The Grief Recovery Method gave me the healthy tools I needed to unpack that too.

Now, I help others heal from loss. Whether it’s a loved one, a relationship, a dream, or a part of yourself. You don’t have to face it alone.

This work is personal to me. It’s not just what I do. It’s who I am. 💛

If you’re grieving and ready to take that first step toward healing, I’m here.

If your heart’s tired of carrying the weight alone, I see you.

Let’s lighten it together.

📌 “We’re taught how to acquire things… but not what to do when we lose them.”

From an early age we’re shown how to strive, succeed, and achieve how to get the job, find the partner, build the life. But no one teaches us what to do when life breaks apart.

The Grief Recovery Method fills that gap not as therapy but as education in emotional truth. It’s the missing subject in life’s curriculum. This isn’t just about coping; it’s about healing.

🛠️ This week, we will explore how grief recovery can become a tool for self-development, not just survival.

Learning the Language of Grief.

Grief teaches patience.

Compassion.

Connection.

Even without words, your heart is always speaking.

If you’re grieving today, know that someone is listening.

If your heart’s tired of carrying the weight alone, I see you.

The Grief Walk & Talk Community is a gentle space where you don’t have to explain your grief or pretend it’s gone.

Grief can feel heavy, isolating, too big to sit with alone.

That’s why we walk.

We walk, we talk, we laugh, we cry. There’s no pressure to “be okay.” Just permission to be exactly where you are.

Movement. Connection. Compassion. That’s what this is about.

If you’re carrying loss of any kind, you are welcome here.

We walk on the last Sunday of every month starting at 10.30am outside The Newbold Comyn Arms, Leamington. We walk at our own pace and often stay for a drink after. Free to join for anyone that will benefit.

Turn up on the day or get in touch with me to let me know you'll be joining.

From my heart to yours

Clare

I could honestly talk about this all day and I really wanted to continue the discussion after it had ended!

I attended the first webinar from the Bristol Centre for Grief Research & Engagement in partnership with The Good Grief Festival hosted by Dr. Christy Denckla (Harvard) and Lucy Selman (Founding Director of The Good Grief Festival).
They dove into what the research says about how different types of loss impact different groups and what that means for wellbeing and the benefits of early intervention.

A hotly debated topic “How long should grief last?”:
Psychiatrists suggest there’s a timeline. Others (like The Grief Recovery Method, which I use in my work) challenge that. My take? It’s deeply individual. Whilst a guide can be helpful it can also do more harm than good if someone’s grief does not align with expectations.

I was surprised to learn that 67% of British Prime Ministers since the 19th century lost a parent in childhood. This suggests that substantial early adversity can foster considerable resilience, something that resonates with me.

There’s still so much to learn (and unlearn) about grief. I’m looking forward to the next session already!

When I speak to those that are grieving they find it odd that people don't mention their loss.

It is part of who they are. If you avoid grieving people because you don't know what to say...here are some suggestions...it is incredibly helpful for them to talk about it.

If your heart’s tired of carrying the weight of grief alone, I see you.

Grief can be isolating but the presence of a kind friend one who doesn’t try to fix it, rush it, or make it tidy is a lifeline.

If you’re grieving: you deserve friends who honour your pace, your tears, your laughter when it comes.

If you’re supporting someone in grief your presence matters more than perfect words ever could.

Being there is doing something. 💛

To all the grief-holders, space-makers, and tea-bringers (or coffee in my case) out there: thank you. You’re part of the healing.

If your heart’s tired of carrying the weight of grief alone, I see you.

Grief doesn’t always look how we expect.

It’s the ache after a breakup.

The silence after a friend drifts away.

The confusion after a job loss.

The guilt of "what could have been."

As a Grief Recovery Specialist, I help people process all types of loss, not just bereavement, so they can move forward without pretending they’re “fine.”

If you’ve lost someone (or something) that mattered… your grief is valid and there’s a way through.

If your heart’s tired of carrying the weight alone, I see you.

Let’s lighten it together.
